Ho Chi Minh City urges US companies to invest in technology

DNHN - Recently, a team from Ho Chi Minh City led by Mr Phan Van Mai, member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, met with US corporations to promote technological investment in Vietnam. The summit was placed in Silicon Valley, the United States' technology epicentre.

During the discussion, a representative from Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Planning and Investment informed US companies about the city's investment promotion policies. Mr Christopher Nguyen, CEO of Aitomatic, a business specialising in artificial intelligence applications for industry, expressed interest in the smart city initiatives being implemented in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr Joseph Jacks, partner and creator of OSS Capital, a software development firm, stated that Ho Chi Minh City should boost technology and software training.

According to Mr Carlos Cordino, Director of Global Infrastructure Funds at Cisco, this entity is looking at investment prospects in Vietnam, especially in smart city building and technological infrastructure development. At the conference, the officials of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry shared and responded to these suggestions.

Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his appreciation for US firms' concerns and queries. He hoped firms would conduct studies and promote investment in Ho Chi Minh City by consulting or participating in specific programs and initiatives to help grow the city. The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City stated the city constantly welcomes enterprises and sets all favourable conditions for investors to visit.

On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh group paid a visit to Stanford University, one of the most prestigious universities in the United States in a variety of subjects, including medical research. The delegation visited and collaborated with this university's Anti-Epidemic Institute.

The Institute of Epidemiology's objective is to develop treatments against viruses that have the potential to trigger future epidemics, as well as drugs to cure diseases that affect millions of people worldwide, such as hepatitis B, and C... Stanford University, with 7 schools and 18 multidisciplinary institutes, provides specialized instruction in areas such as AI, fundamental research, medical research, and so on. These fields combine and complement one another, making it easier to conduct research against present or future viruses.

During the discussion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Phan Van Mai stated that the trip to Ho Chi Minh City is intended to learn about the Institute of Epidemiology's expertise in studying anti-viral medicines. Simultaneously, share expertise to assist Ho Chi Minh City in the development and manufacture of preventative vaccinations.
