In the first six months of 2022, the expansion of the shrimp sector is quite encouraging: Shrimp production is estimated at 400/950 thousand tons (reaching 42.1% of the target), an increase of 10.2% over the same period, with black tiger shrimp accounting for 113 thousand tons and white leg shrimp for 287 thousand tons; export turnover reached 2.38 billion USD, representing 39.1% of the total seafood export turnover.
It is anticipated the turnover from shrimp exports in 2022 would be at least 10 per cent greater than in 2021, exceeding the goal. In 2022, the sector aims to produce 1 million tons of commercial shrimp.
During the Vietnam Shrimp Forum in 2022, under the topic "Application of science and technology for sustainable growth of the shrimp industry in Vietnam," Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien listed many crucial responsibilities for the seafood sector in the last half of 2022.
First, continue to direct the deployment of issuing codes for traceability at shrimp farming facilities.
Second, establish connections between shrimp-growing locales and simultaneously apply production development solutions to expand shrimp farming and successfully combat the Covid-19 outbreak. Develop a scenario for shrimp production in brackish water in the framework of Covid-19, ensuring that it is not passive in the face of disease variations.
Third, successfully implement several authorized projects and programs, including the national action plan to promote Vietnam's shrimp industry through 2025, the master plan to develop Vietnam's shrimp industry through 2030, and the Sustainable aquaculture development project in the Mekong Delta.

The Directorate of Fisheries will work closely with local governments to regulate the quality of shrimp seed, information on its origin, quality, and other pertinent matters. Relationship between regions that produce shrimp seed and regions that cultivate commercial shrimp.

Ninth, production is arranged in the direction of linkage, namely vertical and horizontal links between production facilities, to make goods safely, decrease costs, and assure output.
Tenth, aggressively coordinate the removal of technical hurdles and the expansion of the Vietnamese shrimp consumption market.
Finally, organize information, propaganda, and the transfer of science and technology to replicate models of two- and three-stage shrimp farming, farming using probiotics, closed-loop culture, and biosecurity farming, high-tech farming, automation models in shrimp farming, and effective production linkage models to assist farmers and businesses in producing actively and efficiently.
