DNHN - On March 7, 2022, the World Bank delegation, led by Mr Benedict L.J. Eijbergen, Director of the East Asia Pacific Traffic Management Board, met with the Provincial People's Committee to discuss projects that have been and will be invested in Thanh Hoa province.

At the meeting, the Director of the Department of Transport Nguyen Van Khien presented to the delegation about proposals for projects using WB loans in Thanh Hoa province.
Accordingly, Thanh Hoa is located at the gateway connecting the North with the Central region, a province with direct traffic connections to the Northern key economic region, Northern Laos provinces and the central economic region. In recent years, the area's road transport infrastructure has been invested in a coordinated manner, with a particular emphasis on projects with high connectivity and widespread coverage; generating attractive conditions for investors and contributing to the province's overall development.
To gradually improve the transport system in the province according to the approved plans, strengthen the connection between economic regions and urban areas, and create a driving force for socio-economic development, Thanh Hoa province proposed 07 projects using WB loans in the province, including Project 1: Road connecting Thanh Hoa city with Ngoc Lac district; Project 2: Ring road with 3 branches to the East, the section from Hoang Hoa district to Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province; Project 3: North Ma River Boulevard; Project 4: Route connecting Quang Loi beach resort with Nghi Son - Tho Xuan road; Project 5: Project of roads connecting National Highway 1A with roads from Bim Son Industrial Park to coastal roads; Project 6: Upgrading the route from National Highway 1A to the coastal road (Extended National Highway 217); Project 7: Renovating and upgrading provincial road 522.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr Benedict L.J. Eijbergen thanked the leaders of Thanh Hoa province for taking the time to receive and work with the delegation; Next, Mr Benedict L.J. Eijbergen emphasized, transport infrastructure development is one of the priority areas of the World Bank to support investment capital in Vietnam in recent years.
Mr Benedict Eijbergen expressed his support for the projects proposed by Thanh Hoa at the meeting and wished that the two sides would continue to cooperate closely to implement the next steps to propose to the Ministry of Transport. load and WB. In addition to the road system, the mission is also interested in investing in developing the system of seaports, airports, inland waterways and urban transport systems of Thanh Hoa province in the future.

Speaking during the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Mai Xuan Liem expressed gratitude to the group for their interest in and understanding of provincial programs and expressed appreciation for the delegation members' sharing of ideas. The meeting's information on the World Bank's development strategy in Vietnam will assist Thanh Hoa province in developing an appropriate strategy.
Additionally, he stated that Thanh Hoa's aviation and seaport projects have been in place for a long period and require resources to enhance and expand to fulfil socio-economic development objectives. As such, the province hopes that the WB would continue to support and assist Thanh Hoa in achieving the aforementioned objective. Simultaneously, the province anticipates that the World Bank will soon deploy specialists to Thanh Hoa to investigate and work on the contents of the proposed traffic system development.

Mai Xuan Liem, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, assigned the Department of Transport to act as the focal point, coordinating with relevant sectors in the province to identify specific proposed investment projects for next steps, reporting to the World Bank, and considering and prioritizing investment by Ministries and central branches.
