Can Tho recommend that the Ministry of Transport expeditiously invest in the implementation of the high-speed railway line between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho to eliminate connection difficulties, reduce product costs, enhance competitiveness, and supply goods to the consumer market?

The Ministry of Transport stated that the ministry agreed with the voters of Can Tho City's proposal to invest in the Ho Chi Minh City to the Can Tho railway line immediately. According to the master plan, the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho railway line will be approximately 174 kilometres long, pass through six provinces/cities, have two tracks and a gauge of 1,435 millimetres, and have a research and investment roadmap before 2030.

With the important role of the route in connecting the centre of the Southern Key Economic Zone to the centre of the Mekong Delta Key Economic Zone, improving competitiveness, and supporting the region's goods supply to the consumer market; implementing the policies of the Politburo and planning, the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Railway Project Management Board as the investor, has arranged capital to prepare the pre-feasibility study report, and is currently preparing the feasibility study report.

According to the Ministry of Transport, this is a large-scale project (preliminary total investment of approximately 7 billion USD), and the technology - engineering is complex, so it must be studied carefully, comprehensively, exhaustively, and evaluated thoroughly. Particularly objective and scientific when it comes to resource allocation.

"The Ministry of Transport will strive to complete the pre-feasibility study report and submit it to the competent authorities in 2025 as a basis for mobilising resources for deployment," stated the Ministry's document.

According to the consultant's preliminary proposal for the pre-feasibility study report, the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho high-speed railway will run from Binh Duong (An Binh station) to Can Tho (Can Tho station). There are 15 stations and 11 maintenance, repair, and inspection stations along the route...

The chosen railway technology for this railway line is the distributed dynamic train (EMU) for passenger trains, the centralised dynamic train for goods trains, and radio-based automatic train control signals. The majority of the route consists of an embankment and a viaduct.

This railway's maximum design speed is 190 km/h, with passenger trains operating at less than 190 km/h and goods trains operating at less than 120 km/h.
