Seafood exports climbed by approximately 36% in the second quarter compared to the same time the previous year

Continuing to exceed the 1 billion USD mark in June, seafood exports took in more than 3.2 billionUSD in the second quarter and almost 5.8 billion USD in the first half of this year, a 40% increase over the previous year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, while development is slowing, seafood exports in June 2022 were more than 1 billion USD, equal to the previous month and up 23 per cent over the same time last year.

The aforementioned results increased seafood exports to more than 3.2 billion USD in the second quarter of this year, a roughly 36 per cent increase over the same time last year. Shrimp continued to account for the largest share of overall seafood exports, reaching over 2.3 billion USD, an increase of more than 33 per cent over the same period and accounting for 40 per cent of total seafood exports. Meanwhile, pangasius exports increased by over 54 per cent in June, reaching more than 1.4 billion USD in the first six months of this year, a rise of more than 83 per cent over the same time last year and accounting for a quarter of total export sales. Seafood.

One of the chances for pangasius in 2022 is a lack of white fish, particularly cod, in the EU, US, and UK markets as a result of sanctions against Russia, which has forced numerous restaurants in these areas to close.

Cod is not on the menu. Pangasius shipments to the United Kingdom grew sixfold in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year; exports to Spain almost quadrupled; and exports to France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium climbed by 45-90 per cent.

Tuna shipments surged by over 43 per cent in June and nearly 56 per cent in the first half of this year to exceed 553 million USD, accounting for roughly 10% of total seafood exports. Over the same period, tuna shipments to the US almost quadrupled, while exports to the EU climbed by just 9%, a significantly more modest gain when compared to other markets. The market for fish items has shrunk.

Export turnover for squid and octopus reached more than 344 million USD in the first half of 2022, increasing 29 per cent over the same time the previous year and accounting for 6 per cent of overall seafood export sales. Squid exports increased by 45 per cent to 197 million USD, while octopus exports increased by 12 per cent to 147 million USD.

Exports of shrimp, crabs and other seafood increased by 11-54 per cent in the first six months of this year compared to the same time last year.
