Petrovietnam Keeps Advancing in Science, Technology, and Innovation While Managing Backlog Projects Efficiently

DNHN - “Petrovietnam must not rest on its laurels; it must stay together, face difficulties and obstacles, encourage innovation, science, and technology, and efficiently manage backlog projects...”
That was the statement of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the conference to review the work in 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024 of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam - PVN) held on the afternoon of January 8, 2024.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the efforts, endeavours, results and achievements that the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group has achieved; making an important contribution to the relatively comprehensive overall results in all fields of the country in 2023. The Group has made great contributions to the state budget; contributing to building an independent and self-reliant economy; ensuring national energy security; maintaining and affirming national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity; strengthening foreign relations; participating in ensuring social security, etc.
“Petrovietnam must not rest on its laurels; it must stay together, face difficulties and obstacles, encourage innovation, science, and technology, and efficiently manage backlog projects...” - the Prime Minister reminded.
Pointing out the causes and lessons learned in both achievements and limitations, the Prime Minister requested that in the coming time, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group continue to renew its thinking, with a strategic vision; mobilise the combined strength to carry out tasks; solidarity, discipline, responsibility in management and operation; do a good job of coordination within the industry and with ministries, sectors and localities.
The Group needs to increase investment in development, innovation, Digital Transformation, and Green Transformation; develop the renewable energy industry; implement more decentralisation and delegation of authority, along with the allocation of resources and implementation capacity; continue to reform administrative procedures; promote self-reliance and self-improvement, rise with its own hands and minds…
Agreeing with the tasks and solutions for 2024 set out by the Group, the Prime Minister requested the Group to thoroughly grasp, strictly and effectively implement the tasks according to the Resolutions and Conclusions of the Party, the National Assembly, the Government, and the Prime Minister in implementing the socio-economic development tasks in 2024.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Oil and Gas industry and Petrovietnam continue to consolidate the apparatus, build a high-quality, streamlined staff, promote the spirit of solidarity and unanimity, dare to think and dare to do; review and restructure resources; focus on training staff, developing human resources; continue to effectively organise and implement the restructuring of enterprises, equitisation, and divestment of state capital; have scientific, methodical, and intelligent management solutions.
The Prime Minister requested the Group to keep a close eye on the situation, trends and developments of the market to well manage fluctuations, focus on forecasting and assessing the room for manoeuvre and growth drivers in business areas; promote investment and development activities throughout the Group, proactively and promptly handle difficulties and obstacles, and ensure the progress and efficiency of key projects in the energy and oil and gas sectors. In particular, coordinate with industries and partners to handle backlogs and obstacles in the projects: Block B Gas-fired Power Project Chain, Long Phu Thermal Power Plant, Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant Project…
Regarding the recommendations at the Conference, the Prime Minister said that these were issues that the Government, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Ministers had directed many times and specific documents were assigned to ministries and sectors for consideration and handling; The Prime Minister assigned relevant ministries and sectors, according to their assigned functions and tasks, to urgently and thoroughly handle obstacles and problems in the shortest time to support and create conditions for the Group to develop and ensure national energy security.
The Prime Minister believes that with the tradition of creative labour, solidarity, mettle and intelligence of oil and gas workers that have been honed over time; those who go in search of fire, energy - continue to kindle the fire of passion, enthusiasm, the fire of faith in the aspiration to seek new driving forces for the industry, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group will continue to develop further, successfully implement the set targets, and achieve higher results in 2024 than in 2023.
At the Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented the decision to appoint Mr Le Manh Hung, Member of the Board of Members, General Director of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, to the position of Chairman of the Board of Members of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group.
The representative of the Central Enterprises Party Committee announced and presented the Decision of the Central Enterprises Party Committee approving the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group for Mr Le Manh Hung, Chairman of the Board of Members, General Director of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group.
