Pangasius export targets over 1.6 billion USD

DNHN - In 2022, the pangasius industry is expected to produce 1.6-1.7 million tons of commercial pangasius; export turnover reached over 1.6 billion USD.

Speaking at the Conference "Implementing the plan to develop pangasius industry in 2022" on February 25, Mr. Nhu Van Can, Director of Aquaculture (General Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said, despite facing many difficulties, in 2021, pangasius exports will still reach 1.62 billion USD, up 8.4% compared to 2020.

From a business perspective, the representative of the Vietnam Pangasius Association suggested that in the coming time to implement traceability to serve export requirements, it is necessary to continue to maintain the application of GlobalGAP, ASC standards... in intensive farming of pangasius in order to improve product quality in association with environmental protection and disease safety.

In addition, towards the formation of concentrated pangasius seed production areas, applying the latest and best scientific and technical achievements to all stages of the farming process (food, essential materials, etc.).

At the same time, it is necessary to strongly encourage the development of the cooperative model so that the representative of cooperative members can sign contracts, both creating favorable conditions for the formation of concentrated production areas, and reducing the focal point for signing contracts for other cooperatives.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien suggested relevant units to have solutions to improve the quality of pangasius fingerlings because this determines the quality and productivity in the future; at the same time, strengthen disease prevention for pangasius in difficult weather conditions like today.

"Localities in the Mekong Delta must control well the planning of pangasius farming areas, put this plan into the general planning in economic development of the locality.
