New and returning businesses increase by 8.5% year-on-year

DNHN - The average registered capital per new business in February 2024 was VND 7.8 billion, a decrease of 30% compared to the previous month and an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the General Statistics Office, in February 2024, nearly 8,600 new businesses were established nationwide, with a registered capital of VND 67.3 trillion and nearly 50,900 registered employees. This is a significant decrease compared to the previous month, with a decrease of 36.5% in the number of businesses, 55.6% in registered capital and 50.8% in the number of employees. Compared to the same period last year, the number of new businesses decreased by 2.8%, the registered capital increased by 2.6% and the number of employees decreased by 0.3%.
The average registered capital per new business in the month was VND 7.8 billion, a decrease of 30% compared to the previous month and an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023. At the same time, more than 5,300 businesses have resumed operations, a decrease of 61.3% compared to the previous month and an increase of 36% compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first two months of 2024, more than 22,100 new businesses were registered nationwide, with a total registered capital of VND 218.7 trillion and 154,300 registered employees. This is a significant increase compared to last year's period, with an increase of 12.4% in the number of businesses, 32.8% in registered capital and 29% in the number of employees. The average registered capital per new business in the first two months of 2024 was VND 9.9 billion, an increase of 18.2% compared to the same period in 2023.
Including the additional registered capital from 6,331 businesses that increased their capital, the total additional registered capital to the economy in the first two months of 2024 was VND 519.6 trillion, a decrease of 0.6% compared to last year. In addition, nearly 19,000 businesses nationwide have resumed operations, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period in 2023, bringing the total number of new businesses and businesses returning to operation in the first two months of 2024 to nearly 41,100 businesses, an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period last year.
By economic sector, in the first two months of 2024, there were 236 new businesses in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, an increase of 19.2% compared to the same period last year; 5,300 businesses in the industry and construction sector, an increase of 12.1%; and 16,600 businesses in the service sector, an increase of 12.4%.
In February, 5,146 businesses registered to temporarily suspend business for some time, a decrease of 88.3% compared to the previous month and an increase of 35.3% compared to the same period in 2023. 2,153 businesses suspended operations pending liquidation procedures, a decrease of 72.4% and 18.3%; and 1,506 businesses that completed liquidation procedures, a decrease of 30.4% and an increase of 29%.
In the first two months of 2024, the number of businesses that temporarily suspended business for some time was nearly 49,300, an increase of 27.1% compared to the same period last year; 10,000 businesses suspended operations pending liquidation procedures, an increase of 6.5%; and nearly 3,700 businesses completed liquidation procedures, an increase of 14.5%. On average, nearly 31,500 businesses withdraw from the market each month.
