As predicted by many, Elon Musk's $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter and rebrand it as X could fail.

"The unfortunate reality is that there are no great social networks at present. We may fail, as predicted by many. But I will do my best to ensure that we have a solid social network," Musk recently wrote on X.

The message was delivered by the South African-born billionaire last month when X's competitor Meta launched its Threads app to compete with X.

Meta introduced the Threads app in early July. A few days after its debut, the platform attracted more than 100 million users. To date, however, Threads' user base has decreased to approximately 10 million people.

Musk continues to take a variety of steps to transform X into a super app. The app is envisioned as an AI-powered "engine for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities", according to Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X.

To transform X into a "super app," Mr. Musk has pushed to eliminate chatbots, but to no avail. Matt Binder, a Mashable tech expert, discovered last week that 42 percent of his account's followers were fake, leaving open the possibility that they were automated accounts.
