The Ministry of Transport (Transport) held a press conference to unveil the Master Plan for the development of the nation's airports and airport system from 2021 to 2030, with an eye toward 2050. This assessed event concludes the planning chain in the field of transportation, including roadway, waterway, maritime, and rail.
During the conference, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan emphasized the significance of aviation planning for the growth of Vietnam's aviation industry and global connectivity.

The Ministry of Transport has requested that the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, along with the close cooperation of localities, the Ministry of National Defence, and other relevant agencies, implement this plan to complete the task authorized by the Prime Minister.
Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, Director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration, presented the master plan for the development of the nation's airports and airport system from 2021 to 2030, with a view to 2050. Decision number 648/QD-TTg was approved by the Prime Minister.
According to the approved decision, the national airport system will be constructed using the spokesmodel, with two major hubs in the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City areas. 30 airports are included in the plan, including 14 international airports such as Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho, and Phu Quoc. In addition, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Sa Pa, Na San, Dong Hoi, Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Rach Gia, Ca Mau, Con Dao, Thanh Son, and Bien Hoa are among the 16 domestic airports.

The plan also calls for the expansion of the network with the addition of 3 new airports, including Hai Phong (the international airport in the Tien Lang district), Cao Bang, and the second airport of the Capital Region (expected to be located in the southeast, south of Hanoi).

In addition, the plan seeks to ensure national defense and security, enhance economic competitiveness, and contribute to Vietnam's transformation into a modern industrialized nation with a high middle income by 2030.
With an eye towards 2050, the plan aims to create two regionally competitive international air transport hubs in the capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Simultaneously, it will invest in exploiting new airports so that 97% of the population can access airports within 100 kilometers, and it will expand and upgrade airports in regional economic hubs to meet customer demand. socioeconomic development needs.
