Long An - Jeju Cooperation: Enhancing Local Friendship Ties

Long An and Jeju: Multi-sectoral cooperation, looking to the future
On April 23, 2024, a delegation from Long An Province led by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut visited and worked with the Governor of Jeju Province, South Korea. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of solemnity, friendship, and close cooperation.
During the meeting, the two localities exchanged views on important issues related to sharing experiences in the organisation and operation of local governments, learning valuable lessons from each other, particularly in the areas of socio-economic development and attracting foreign investment. The two sides also discussed the direction of comprehensive cooperation in the future, creating an important foundation for promoting cooperation in the high-tech industry, renewable energy, tourism, education, and training of high-quality labour, as well as investment in world-class golf courses. This meeting demonstrated the desire of both sides to strengthen cooperation, develop together, and move towards a prosperous future.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut stated that Long An is keen to strengthen cooperation with Jeju for mutual development. The provincial government believes that with the close cooperation and efforts of both sides, the relationship between Long An and Jeju will continue to grow sustainably. He also expressed his hope to welcome the Governor, his associates, and Jeju businesses to visit, explore, and work in Long An so that the two sides can enhance mutual understanding and develop increasingly close and positive relations.
In his response, the Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Oh Young Hoon also affirmed that Jeju is very impressed by the potential, advantages, and development of Long An province. He agreed to further promote cooperative relations based on the strengths of the two localities based on friendship and shared interests.

Concluding the meeting, the leaders of the two localities pledged to create the most favourable conditions for businesses and people from both sides to cooperate and invest. The two sides will also regularly exchange information, and experiences, and organise exchange and learning activities to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation.
Long An delegation worked with the Seogwipo City Government
On April 24, 2024, as part of the working programme in South Korea, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, the Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Long An Province Nguyen Thanh Hai, and the Long An Provincial Delegation visited and worked with the Mayor of Seogwipo City.
At the meeting, Mayor Lee Jong Woo expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Long An province for taking the time to visit and work in Seogwipo. He gave an overview of the natural conditions, socio-economic information, general planning, and development orientation of the city. He shared that Seogwipo City is the second largest city on Jeju Island, located on the volcanic rock coastline in the south of Jeju Province, and was one of the venues for the 2002 World Cup. He expressed his desire to cooperate comprehensively with the central cities of Long An province in economic development, cooperation in the field of digital transformation, and high-end commercial service complexes in the near future. He also introduced that Seowipo is expected to be one of the venues to host the 2025 APEC Summit in Jeju Province.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the Seogwipo City government. He shared about the cooperative relationship between Long An province and South Korean localities in the past, the areas calling for investment, and the situation of investment attraction and business activities of South Korean enterprises in the province. Through the meeting, he believed that Seogwipo City and Tan An City, Kien Tuong Town of Long An have similarities in development orientation, making it suitable for deeper connections in the future to share and learn from each other's experiences in developing local socio-economic nuclear centres. After today's cordial meeting, Long An and Seogwipo City, Jeju Province, will have deeper connections to move towards specific cooperation in developing modern administrative service centres, trade services, tourism, and education and training.
After the meeting, the Long An provincial delegation conducted a field survey of the Jeju International Convention Centre (ICC). With a total construction area of 62,125 m2 over 7 floors, the ICC specialises in organising international meetings and conferences with modern equipment, especially an auditorium with a capacity of up to 4,300 people; in addition, there are exhibition rooms, utility rooms, restaurants, hotels, and related ancillary facilities.

The working trip to South Korea has opened new chapters in the cooperative relationship between Long An and Jeju Province. It is believed that with the close cooperation and efforts of both sides, this relationship will continue to grow sustainably, contributing to the socio-economic development of the two localities.
According to the working programme in the coming days, the Long An Provincial Delegation will work with the Jeju Free City Development Centre (JDC) on cooperation in high-tech development, and visit and work with the Yooshin Group on cooperation in infrastructure development.
