Kristoffer Bottzauw, Director General of the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), says Vietnam has gone a long way in its green transformation

DNHN - On June 2, the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam collaborated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi to organize a series of events on Vietnam's energy prospects, including a discussion on Vietnam's energy prospects and the announcement ceremony of the report on Vietnam's energy prospects 2021.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An said during the announcement event for the report on Vietnam's energy prospects for 2021 that Denmark and Vietnam have had a long-term cooperation agreement in the field of energy since 2013. In the past, cooperation projects and programs with Denmark have actively contributed to the achievement of Vietnam's aims of maintaining energy security and sustainably growing the energy sector.

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang An is working hard to achieve the objective of becoming a high-income country by 2045. In this perspective, Vietnam's projected energy demand and power demand in It will continue to grow significantly in the next years to satisfy the demands of the economy and people's livelihood. At the same time, in addition to guaranteeing energy security, Vietnam is developing a significant energy transition program until 2050.

"At the 26th United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26), Vietnam committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, demonstrating the Government of Vietnam's focus on implementing the goals of shifting from traditional fossil energy sources to green, clean energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and combating climate change," said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade.

With the recent strong growth in renewable energy development, the Government of Vietnam is directing to continue sharply increasing the proportion of renewable energy sources (hydroelectricity, onshore and offshore wind power, solar power, biomass), new forms of energy (including Hydrogen, green ammonia... when the technology is validated) in the national power source structure, while also increasing the economical and efficient use of energy, reducing the national power source structure's carbon footprint.

At the event, Kristoffer Bottzauw, Director General of the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), stated that Vietnam has gone a long way in its green transition, as evidenced by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's promise to net emissions zero at COP26.

Mr Kristoffer Bottzauw stated, "Through the Vietnam energy prospect report, which was developed in close collaboration with Vietnamese energy agencies, we would like to share how to achieve this goal on time and at the lowest possible cost for the benefit of the country, its people, and especially the global climate."

The Vietnam Energy Outlook Report outlines development scenarios for Vietnam's energy system, including one in which net-zero emissions are achieved by 2050.

The paper is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Danish Department of Energy.
