Ho Chi Minh City promotes sustainable and modern urban agriculture

DNHN - Ho Chi Minh City is promoting the development of modern and sustainable urban agriculture to transform agricultural structures and build a new countryside.
The production value of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries reached VND 46,669 billion between 2021 and June 2023, an increase of 10.68% over the same period but a decrease of 22.11% compared to the plan.
In 2020, 56/56 communes in Ho Chi Minh City reached the new advanced rural standard. During the years 2021 to 2025, the city will focus on enhancing the quality and constructing a new rural area linked to urbanization in the region. rural table. By the end of 2022, 56 of 56 communes will have been recognized by the City People's Committee as meeting new rural standards in the quality improvement stage, and five of five districts (Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Nha Be, Can Gio, and Binh Chanh) will have been approved by the Prime Minister. The government acknowledges the new rural standards. Ho Chi Minh City is committed to completing the new rural task by the Central Government's regulations for the period 2021-2025 by 2025.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City has decided to evaluate and classify OCOP products at the city level. There have been 39 products of 11 units with 3 or more stars, with 15 products receiving 4 stars and 24 receiving 3 stars. In addition, it is proposed to recognize a product with five stars. Concurrently, the city has also approved the One Community One Product (OCOP) plan for the years 2021 to 2025.
Ho Chi Minh City is currently focused on the development of high-tech agriculture, clean agriculture, urban agriculture, biotechnology, circular agriculture, and adaptation to climate change. Agricultural restructuring and restructuring are both important objectives. Additionally, Ho Chi Minh City strengthens international cooperation and the transfer of new technologies, particularly processing and preservation technology, seed technology, and environmental technology for the reuse of byproducts. Simultaneously, Ho Chi Minh City is attempting to reduce inshore fishery production and increase offshore fishing. Additionally, the city is developing high-tech aquaculture areas, enhancing biosecurity, and safeguarding the natural environment. In addition, special attention is paid to the preservation of the existing forest area and the improvement of forest planting and maintenance.

Ho Chi Minh City also establishes a plan to implement the National Target Programme on building new rural areas associated with urbanization in rural areas of Ho Chi Minh City during the period 2021-2025, including criteria such as newly enhanced rural communes associated with urbanization, model new rural communes associated with urbanization, and new advanced rural districts associated with urbanization in rural areas of Ho Chi Minh City during the period 2021-2025. Additionally, the city is constructing and replicating the smart new rural commune model, the e-commerce new rural commune model, and the circular economy new rural commune model.
Ho Chi Minh City has enacted and implemented the Urban Agriculture Development Programme for the years 2021 through 2030, with an eye toward 2050. During this time, Ho Chi Minh City has strengthened state management, ensured food hygiene and safety of animal, plant, and aquatic origin, and improved forest management and protection, forest fire prevention and protection, and protection of wildlife. Additionally, the city focuses on developing a group of high-quality products, diversifying the sources of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, and enhancing the added value and competitiveness of its products.
Through innovation, Ho Chi Minh City is advancing in the development of modern and sustainable urban agriculture, thereby contributing significantly to economic development and enhancing the quality of life for city residents.
