Vietnam through the eyes of foreigners

Many international residents expressed deep emotion upon witnessing Hanoi adorned in the national colors and resonating with the solemn sound of military marches.

Master Anis Chichaoui, an English and French teacher currently residing in Long Biên District, Hanoi, shared:

"I never imagined that one day I would witness millions of Vietnamese people singing their national anthem with such overwhelming pride. In that moment, I truly felt the unity and strength of Vietnam — a sacred flag-raising ceremony that resonated with the very soul of the nation."

Andrea Dezi, an Italian entrepreneur and lecturer at the Banking Academy, also spoke from the heart:

“For me, commemorating Vietnam’s National Day on September 2nd is a deeply moving experience, one that speaks to the core of my personal values and life journey. I celebrated it this year in the countryside with a wonderful Vietnamese family and a dear friend. Thank you for the scent of the land and the rice fields. I love you, Vietnam!”

Mr. Dezi shared that he relocated to Vietnam two years ago, after starting his career in Italy. What drew him here was not only the beauty of the land, but the spirit of its people — resilient, united, and determined to shape their own future.

“I view history through the lens of social justice and self-determination. That’s why I deeply understand the significance of September 2, 1945. It was not just a political shift, but a historic moment when President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Vietnamese people, declared the end of colonialism and feudalism, affirming that all people have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These are the core values of democracy and socialism, where the people hold power and use it for their own betterment.”

“Living in Vietnam today and seeing those values still alive that move me the most. I see it in the hard work of my students, who carry on the dreams of their grandparents. I feel it in the energy of a nation progressing together, fighting poverty, and embracing social advancement — ideals I truly believe in.”

“Now, I no longer feel like an outsider. I feel a deep respect and connection with those around me. I recall the struggles my own country endured for independence, and I see in Vietnam the same passionate spirit, a fire for freedom and justice that still burns brightly. It reminds us that all people, everywhere, yearn for freedom, democracy, and equality.”

“I am proud and honored to live here, to contribute in my small way as a teacher, and to stand with the Vietnamese people in celebrating this historic day. Happy Independence Day, Vietnam!”
