DNHN - Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover in May is estimated at 600 million USD, bringing the total export value for the first five months of 2023 to 1.97 billion USD, a 39% increase over the same period in 2022.
With China's strong increase in purchasing once more, and given that Vietnam is in the midst of a season in which it exports a great deal of fruit to China, it is anticipated that Vietnamese fruit will continue to gain ground.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development estimates that the export value of fruits and vegetables in May will be 600 million USD, bringing the total export value of fruits and vegetables in the first five months of 2023 to 1.97 billion USD, an increase of 39% compared to the same period last year.
In Vietnam's fruit and vegetable consumption during the first four months of 2023, China ranked first with a 58.7% market share valued at US$804.6 million, up 30% from the same period in 2022. The market with the greatest increase in the export value of fruits and vegetables was the Netherlands (up 72.3%). Since the beginning of the year, exports of fruits and vegetables have increased by 39%, which is a fairly high growth rate.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association's General Secretary, Dang Phuc Nguyen, concluded that China's increased purchases following the implementation of the No-COVID policy were responsible for the fruit and vegetable industry's robust growth. After three years of the pandemic, this is the first year that China has purchased dragon fruit, durian, mango, and jackfruit.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Import-Export Company, stated that, despite being competitive with products from Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines, Vietnam's fruit export turnover made a breakthrough with the Chinese market. While exports to the U.S. and Canada decreased, China was the market that aided this company's fruit exports in the first few months of the year. Specifically, items such as durian, dragon fruit, and banana have experienced a significant price increase.
According to the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in the third and fourth quarters of 2023, nearly 7.6 million tonnes of major fruits, such as mango, banana, dragon fruit, pineapple, orange, litchi, longan, durian, jackfruit, and avocado, are anticipated to be consumed.
The Director of the Department of Crop Production, Nguyen Nhu Cuong, advised that people should prioritize crops by the orientation of local authorities, focusing on planting and producing areas with codes, enhancing quality, and enhancing quality. processing rate and product diversification demand must be met.
Particularly, the consumption demand will be very high and short-lived for the main season lychee, which is concentrated in the provinces of Bac Giang and Hai Duong; Longan is concentrated most in the two provinces of Son La and Hung Yen; Son La is also the region with the greatest concentration of mango cultivation in the North, with the remaining large output coming from the southern provinces...
In the second half of the year, export prospects will be brighter if agricultural products from Vietnam are favored by numerous nations.
