DNHN - Through cooperation with Japan, Binh Duong has improved the capacity of environmental management staff and supported the development and issuance of plans and regulations on environmental protection, pollution control and climate change response.
On March 1, Mr Mai Hung Dung, Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee, chaired a working session with the Meti Kansai Regional Delegation (Japan) led by Mr Morishita Tsuyoshi, Director of the Meti Kansai Regional Trade Division. Mr Matsumoto Izumi, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, also attended the working session.
Cooperation between the Meti Kansai region and Binh Duong province began in November 2022. Activities within this framework include training courses and workshops to improve the capacity of environmental management staff and support the development and issuance of plans and regulations on environmental protection, pollution control and climate change response. The plan for the classification of household solid waste at source in Binh Duong province for the period 2023-2025 was also mentioned.
A representative of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment proposed that the Meti Kansai region continue to support Binh Duong in improving the capacity and qualifications of environmental management staff, saving energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and treating waste.
During the working session, delegates from the Meti Kansai region expressed their hope that Binh Duong province would continue to research policy mechanisms to promote the development of businesses in the field of environmental protection and encourage investment in new technologies in this field.
Mr Morishita Tsuyoshi, the representative of the Meti Kansai region, believes that through the cooperation project, Japan’s environmental technology will help Binh Duong Province improve the environment and achieve carbon neutrality. Specifically, it will support Binh Duong in the formation of ecological industrial parks and carbon-neutral industrial parks.
On behalf of the leaders of Binh Duong province, Mr Mai Hung Dung expressed his gratitude to the Japanese agencies, especially the Meti Kansai region, for their interest and for choosing Binh Duong to implement the project in the field of environment and energy saving.
Mr Dung also affirmed that the cooperation with the Meti Kansai region has helped environmental management agencies and businesses in the province access experience in management and application of digital technology in environmental protection work. This helps orientate the development of a circular economy, ecological industrial parks, energy-saving solutions and greenhouse gas emission inventories, thereby contributing to improving the province’s environmental management and protection capacity to achieve the goal of sustainable development.
