Animal quarantine - sustainable livestock development's future

DNHN - It is difficult for Vietnam to meet national disease-safety standards due to the limited conditions of its domestic livestock, which causes importers to be concerned and makes it difficult for Vietnam to meet national disease-safety standards.

On the afternoon of August 14, the Department of Animal Health and the Legal Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as reported by Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, held a significant seminar centered on the dissemination and clarification of several regulations. There are new legal provisions for veterinary medicine.

In the context of the seminar, delegates and units had the opportunity to present and disseminate key aspects of the new regulations, as well as to respond to questions and difficulties posed by localities and businesses., cooperatives, industry associations, and individuals encountered while applying these regulations were also invited to participate. These new provisions support the implementation of activities for the prevention and control of animal diseases, the quarantine of animals and animal products, as well as slaughter process control, veterinary hygiene, and the administration of veterinary drugs, as amended and supplemented by this law.

During the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Van Long - Director of the Department of Animal Health - stated that the livestock industry in Vietnam has made significant strides, but that the export of animals and animals remains a significant weakness. Animal products are difficult. Mr. Long stated that the export value will only reach approximately 400 million USD in 2022, while imports will remain modest. Domestic livestock production is still limited, veterinary hygiene standards are unsatisfactory, and several dangerous animal diseases continue to exist, which is a contributing factor. This makes importing countries anxious and cautious, making it difficult for Vietnam to meet national disease safety standards.

Mr. Long suggested that the construction of disease-free facilities and areas is one of the potential solutions for this issue. He also mentioned that on July 25, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 889/QD-TTg approving the National Plan to implement key tasks to strengthen the capacity of epidemic management and control of animal diseases and to ensure the safety of food of animal origin for the period 2023 to 2030.
