DNHN - The 2024 International Tourism Fair features many tourism promotion activities, through meetings between businesses and businesses; businesses and tourists, and activities of Vietnamese and international tourism promotion agencies.
On the morning of April 11, the Vietnam Tourism Association held the opening ceremony of the 2024 Vietnam International Tourism Fair - VITM Hanoi, attracting the participation of many domestic and foreign businesses seeking cooperation opportunities.
With the theme Green Transformation for Sustainable Development, the Fair has attracted more than 700 businesses from 55 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 16 countries and territories to participate in the event, with more than 450 booths, of which 25% are international booths.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong assessed that Vietnamese tourism is recording positive signals. Citing figures from the first quarter of 2024, the Deputy Minister said that Vietnam welcomed more than 4.6 million international visitors, an increase of 78.6% over the same period last year, and 3.2% higher than the same period in 2019. Domestic tourists reached 30 million, with total tourism revenue estimated at VND 195,000 billion.
“That result shows that in 2024, Vietnamese tourism will fully recover, surpassing the record of 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic,” emphasised Deputy Minister Ho An Phong.
In particular, the Deputy Minister recognised and highly appreciated the efforts of tourism businesses which have overcome the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, strived to maintain their workforce, sought new markets, and developed new tourism products, in line with the trend of tourists after the pandemic, and tourism businesses have gradually recovered and grown.
In addition to the efforts of state management agencies, Vietnamese tourism businesses, the Vietnam Tourism Association and the Tourism Associations of provinces and cities have made positive contributions to the spectacular recovery of Vietnamese tourism.
The Deputy Minister assessed that the theme “Vietnam Tourism - Green Transformation for Sustainable Development” of VITM 2024 reflects the trend of tourism development and is an ideal opportunity for domestic and international tourism businesses to strengthen partnerships, as well as trade, exchange, and connect current and future business opportunities.
“This is also an opportunity for tourism promotion agencies, destination management agencies to introduce new tourism products and destinations to partners, customers as well as the public attending the Fair,” suggested the Deputy Minister.
VITM Hanoi 2024 will feature many tourism promotion activities, through meetings between businesses and businesses; businesses and tourists, and activities of Vietnamese and international tourism promotion agencies.
The highlight of the specialised events at VITM Hanoi 2024 is the Vietnam Tourism Forum - Green Transformation for Sustainable Development organised by the Vietnam Tourism Association in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme UNDP and the Vietnam Tourism Development Research Institute.
Along with that is the ceremony to honour outstanding businesses and individuals in the Vietnamese tourism industry in 2024 to honour the Tourism Associations of provinces and cities, outstanding businesses, individuals in the tourism industry and related organisations that have made contributions, positive contributions, and achieved outstanding achievements in 2023.
In addition, VITM Hanoi 2024 will also feature exchange and tourism promotion programmes on the sidelines of the Fair by affiliated units and localities, creating a vibrant and colourful Fair with special art performances, imbued with the cultural elements of art troupes from both domestic and foreign countries.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong hopes that VITM Hanoi 2024 will contribute to stimulating domestic tourism, creating good opportunities for localities and businesses to introduce products and services, and link tourism development between regions in the country, achieving high efficiency in both business and promotion of destinations and tourism products.
