Anucha Burapachaisri, a government official, stated that the government expects tourism to achieve 80% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019, as the primary growth industry begins to recover as the pandemic decreases.

According to him, foreign travellers would spend between 970 billion and 1.5 trillion baht in Thailand next year.

According to Anucha, Thailand will have 1.5 million visitors each month in the fourth quarter of 2022. The government intends to attract 10 million tourists throughout the course of the year.

"We are on the mend, and the government recognizes that the strategy to modify airline operations will be acceptable for the rising number of passengers, particularly during the peak season towards the end of the year," he added.

Tourism has traditionally been a significant growth driver, contributing to around 18% of GDP. Thailand welcomed 39 million tourists in 2019, spending 3.4 trillion baht ($91 billion). A year later, when the epidemic raged over the world and many countries came to a halt, international tourists contributed just 332 billion baht to the Thai economy.

However, the industry has been rebounding since July, when the government decided to reopen the nation completely, according to Anucha.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects between 7 million and 10 million international tourists this year, with more than 1 million coming only this month. This figure is likely to rise further in the remaining three months of the year.

Every year, international visitors begin to arrive in huge numbers around the end of November, when Thailand's monsoon rains normally decrease.
