DNHN - TH Group has just imported 2,009 purebred Holstein Friesian high-yielding dairy cows from the US to its high-tech concentrated livestock farm in Yen My commune, Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa province.
It is expected that in June 2024, this farm will start producing the first lines of fresh milk, contributing an additional source of quality raw materials for TH true MILK.
On April 5, 2024, after more than a month of leaving the port of Olympia (Florida, USA), the herd of dairy cows arrived at Nghi Son International Port (Thanh Hoa) and were taken to the TH farm in Thanh Hoa for quarantine. After adapting to the new conditions, the herd will be put into the concentrated livestock farming process using high technology and closed production that has become the trademark of TH Group. With this import, TH Group has contributed to rapidly increasing the number of dairy cows with superior breed quality for Thanh Hoa province.
Mr Gilad Efrat - Technical Director of TH farm in Nghia Dan - Nghe An (TH’s current dairy “capital”) affirmed: “We are very strict in selecting the herd, from breed, gene source, pedigree to physical condition, health, age, gestation period, etc. We also maintain control over the quality of the herd throughout the process from the US to the Vietnamese farm following regulations, licensed by state agencies with both veterinary and environmental permits.”
The herd of 2,009 purebred Holstein Friesian (HF) cows imported from the US to Vietnam this time were pregnant and selected to a very high standard. This is the same HF breed as the herd of TH farms in Vietnam, which is currently yielding an average of 11,000-12,000 litres/cow/305-day cycle, equivalent to 36-40 litres of milk/day. The fat content in the milk reaches 3.6 - 3.8% and the protein content is over 2.7%.
The herd belongs to a breed with good genetic performance, including the genetic potential for low somatic cell count, which helps control mastitis - a common disease in dairy cows that can seriously affect milk quality.
Mr Phan Van Thin - Head of the Quarantine and Veterinary Department of Region 3 shared: “The Veterinary Department of Region 3 has worked closely with TH Group to carefully prepare quarantine isolation areas to welcome the first herd of dairy cows imported from the US to Thanh Hoa province. This is a step forward in developing the province’s livestock industry, especially the development of the fresh milk production industry, to serve the Vietnamese people.”
Mr Brandon Speech - General Director of Royal Atlantic Holdings, the supplier of dairy cows for TH Group, shared: “In 6 years of cooperation with TH, this is the 9th ship carrying dairy cows that we have carried out. We always ensure that the purebred dairy cows imported from the US have the highest genetic index and the best gene pool. Time has proven that the later generations of the purebred HF dairy herd have all thrived, developed, and adapted very well in Vietnam.”
Previously, TH farms in Vietnam such as Phu Yen, Lam Dong, Thanh Hoa… often received herds that had fully adapted to Vietnamese conditions from the world’s largest high-tech concentrated dairy farm cluster with a closed production process in Nghia Dan district, Nghe An province. The proactive approach from the selection stage to the reception, isolation, and quarantine of a farm cluster this time demonstrates the perfection of TH’s international-class process of concentrated dairy farming using high technology, which is fully capable of successfully replicating the Nghia Dan model to other localities and countries.
To welcome 2009 purebred HF high-yielding dairy cows, TH Yen My has built 7 more new barns with a circumference of 2 km. All have been cleaned, and disinfected, have a fence around 2.5m high, and are the most modern technologies in the world ready for 45 days of isolation and disease prevention following international regulations. To prevent epidemics and prepare for this reception of cows, TH coordinated with local authorities in 56 buffer zone communes, within a radius of more than 5 km around the farm, to test and vaccinate all livestock against infectious diseases.
The herd will be cared for and raised according to the most modern and optimal technological processes: Livestock farming process, herd management, Israeli technology barns; Disease management process, veterinary work to protect the health of the herd from New Zealand; Feed processing and nutrition management process from Israel; Water treatment process and equipment according to modern German technology; Waste treatment process and equipment according to advanced technology from Koastal - Singapore; Milk processing process and equipment from Germany and Sweden.
It is expected that in June 2024, TH Yen My will produce the first lines of high-quality fresh milk. The largest and most modern milking system in Vietnam, invested by TH Group in Yen My, has the capacity to milk 80 cows at the same time. This milking system only takes 6 hours to milk over 3,000 cows, helping to optimise manpower and costs.
The Thanh Hoa High-tech Dairy Farming and Milk Processing Project of TH Group has a total investment of VND 3,800 billion, with a herd of 20,000 dairy cows. Nearly 165 hectares of the project area are for the construction of the farm and important works such as the milking centre, feed processing plant, clean water and wastewater treatment area, dairy cow hospital, etc. The area for the proactive supply of green fodder raw materials is 735 hectares.
In addition to the farmland area, TH Group plans to cooperate with local people to build a raw material area for dairy cows (corn, grass) to replace low-efficiency agricultural land. TH’s dairy farming project is creating direct and indirect jobs for tens of thousands of workers in the project area.
This is the first time that TH has directly imported a herd of dairy cows to a farm other than the world’s largest high-tech concentrated dairy farm cluster with a closed production process in Nghia Dan, Nghe An.
Founded in 2009 with the desire to open up the path For the health of the community and for true happiness, not following the same path as other milk businesses of importing milk powder for reprocessing, TH Group chose a different approach by importing technology for growing grass, raising cows, and processing milk, creating the best natural milk line with the fresh milk brand TH true MILK. The product has been awarded the National Brand for many years, the Vietnam Gold Quality Award, and many international awards, including special awards in Dubai (UAE), Gold awards in the Russian Federation, and South Korea.
