DNHN - On March 5, Nha Trang City Party Committee and the Communist Magazine organised a scientific workshop with the theme “100-year historical journey: Identifying and promoting cultural values and people of Nha Trang in building and developing the city”.
Within the framework of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment and development of Nha Trang City (1924 - 2024), on March 5, 2024, the Nha Trang City Party Committee (Khanh Hoa province) and the Communist Magazine organised a scientific workshop with the theme “100-year historical journey: Identifying and promoting cultural values and people of Nha Trang in building and developing the city” with the participation of more than 350 delegates, including experts and scientists from schools, departments, and institutes of the Central Government, as well as leaders of Khanh Hoa province and Nha Trang City.

Opening the workshop, Mr Ho Van Mung, Secretary of Nha Trang City Party Committee, stated: To date, the position and role of Nha Trang City have been increasingly evident in socio-economic development, having an impact not only in Khanh Hoa province but also in the region and throughout the country. Nha Trang’s journey over the past 100 years, and recently through the terms of the Party Congress of the city and Khanh Hoa province, has always deeply and strongly reflected the aspiration to elevate the city with solid steps in many areas, creating a connection between socio-economic development and ensuring national defence and security in a modern, civilised, and integrated direction.

In particular, Mr Nguyen Hai Ninh, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, in his speech, stated: The activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment and development of Nha Trang City (1924 - 2024), on March 5, 2024, Nha Trang City Party Committee, including scientific works on Nha Trang, are the process of the city implementing Resolution No. 09-NQ/TW, dated January 28, 2022, of the Politburo “On building and developing Khanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045” with the goal that by 2030, Khanh Hoa will become a centrally-run city, in which Nha Trang City is identified as a core urban area, one of the three key socio-economic regions of the province. In this process, Khanh Hoa needs to promote the cultural values and people of Nha Trang to achieve the goals set by the Politburo.
At the workshop, there were 55 articles and scientific works on Nha Trang that received attention, such as: “100 years of Formation and Development: Identifying Values, Cultural Identity, and People of Nha Trang”, “Nha Trang Land - The Process of receiving and harmonising with external cultural values”, “The role of Nha Trang City in the strategic connection between the Central Highlands region and the South Central Coast today”, “Preserving and promoting the values of cultural heritages of Nha Trang land in the process of building and developing the city” announced through a collection of documents, etc., and 5 direct presentations on the process of formation and development of Nha Trang.
Through his presentation, Associate Professor, Dr Ngoc Hoa - Deputy Director of the Regional Political Academy III assessed that the 100-year sedimentation of Nha Trang City is reflected in its people, values, and identity. All of these elements shape the cultural environment of Nha Trang, becoming an endogenous factor, a resistance in the process of cultural exchange and integration today.
Next, Dr Tran Thi Hong Nhung (Hanoi National University of Education) said that Nha Trang needs to focus on measures to protect natural resources, the inherent beauty of the “Pearl of the East Sea” as well as the cultural-historical-human beauty of the agarwood land. Besides, the locality needs to promote economic restructuring associated with renewing the growth model based on applying science and technology, innovation and creativity towards diversification, increasing value and efficiency.
Sharing this view, when proposing to strengthen the preservation and promotion of the values of historical and cultural relics in tourism development in Nha Trang in the coming time, Master Trinh Thi Phuong (Regional Political Academy II) said that it is necessary to organise surveys, investigations, and experiences to assess the potential and tourism strengths of the city in terms of culture, history, people, traditional festivals, scenic spots, destinations, and unique and outstanding tourism products. On that basis, develop a master plan for tourism development of the 100-year-old city in a unified and synchronous space, creating the strength of the locality. In addition, Nha Trang needs to protect tourism resources and the environment in the best way.
It is known that the workshop results will be the scientific basis for the Executive Committee of the City Party Committee to apply and issue a Resolution on “Promoting cultural values and people of Nha Trang in building a prosperous and happy city”. At the same time, the city will collect some articles to publish into a book - a valuable document for research and long-term application in the practical development of the city in the next stage of the 100-year journey of building and developing Nha Trang City.
