The chance for traders to import 600,000 tonnes of rice from Cambodia at a zero percent preferential tariff

DNHN - Rice and dried tobacco leaf products imported from the Kingdom of Cambodia will be subject to a special preferential import tariff when imported into Vietnam in 2023 and 2024.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Circular No. 06/2024/TT-BCT, officially regulating the import of rice and dried tobacco leaf products originating from Cambodia under the tariff quota in 2023 and 2024, according to information from the website chinhphu.vn.

According to this circular, rice and dried tobacco leaf products imported from the Kingdom of Cambodia will be subject to a special preferential import tariff when imported into Vietnam in 2023 and 2024.

Specifically, the subjects of application are traders importing rice and dried tobacco leaf products originating from Cambodia under the tariff quota, as well as related organisations and individuals.

The import tariff quota for 2023 and 2024 is stipulated in Decree No. 05/2024/ND-CP on the Agreement to promote bilateral trade between Vietnam and the Royal Government of Cambodia for the period 2023-2024.

Accordingly, in 2024, Vietnamese traders can import a maximum of 300,000 tonnes of rice and 3,000 tonnes of unprocessed tobacco leaves or tobacco leaf waste from Cambodia, with a tariff of 0%. This tariff rate will apply until 31 December 2024.
