DNHN - The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province, with the People’s Committees of Luong Son and Yen Thuy districts, and RYB JSC, held a ceremony to export the first container of Dien grapefruit to the US market in 2024.

In recent years, grapefruit has become one of the main crops in Hoa Binh province. Currently, the province has over 3,200 hectares of Dien grapefruit, accounting for nearly 60% of the grapefruit area and 31% of the total area of citrus fruits in the province. The output of Dien grapefruit in 2023 reached over 52,000 tonnes. The main Dien grapefruit growing areas are in Yen Thuy, Luong Son, and Kim Boi districts.
The first batch of Hoa Binh's Dien grapefruit exported in 2024 consists of 15 tonnes. Compared to the batch of Dien grapefruit exported to the UK market in 2023, this year’s grapefruit has been improved in terms of sweetness, yield, and appearance, meeting the demanding requirements of the market. Exported Dien grapefruit must go through many stages of processing and inspection, meeting standards for appearance, Brix level, and passing 900 criteria for pesticide residues and other residues related to food safety.
After being processed and sorted, the grapefruit products are sent to Ho Chi Minh City for irradiation. It is expected that by the end of February 2024, the batch of Dien grapefruit will arrive and be available on supermarket shelves in Houston, Texas, USA.
