Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman of India's largest conglomerate, Adani Group, specializing in infrastructure and energy, sent a letter of condolence to the people of Vietnam and made a large donation to help remedy the aftermath of Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon Yagi).

In a letter to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Chairman of Adani Group expressed his deepest condolences to all the people of Vietnam, especially those facing the severe consequences of Typhoon Yagi and the resulting floods.

“We are deeply saddened to witness the great loss of life and property due to the devastation caused by nature, as well as the hardships that communities in Northern Vietnam are enduring,” the letter read.

Mr. Gautam Adani remarked that for generations, the country and people of Vietnam have consistently demonstrated extraordinary strength and incredible resilience in overcoming adversity. "In this particularly difficult time, it is extremely important that we come together in solidarity, united in our support for those most affected by the disaster," the Adani Group Chairman emphasized.

Sharing in Vietnam's difficulties, the Adani Group contributed $1 million to the Central Relief Fund, aiming to provide necessary support for charitable and relief activities in the Northern provinces affected by the storm and floods, as well as the Viet-Tiep Friendship Hospital in Hai Phong in the near future.

Billionaire Gautam Adani was born in 1962 into a large family of a small trader, with a father who ran a textile shop. Seeking to change his life, he decided to move to Mumbai and applied for a job at a diamond trading company. By 1981, from being a diamond employee, he purchased a plastic factory, managed it personally, and officially began his regional expansion.

In 1988, he founded Adani Exports, the predecessor to Adani Enterprises Ltd., part of the famous Adani Group in India. After that, Adani continued to acquire the Mundra commercial port—India’s largest private seaport—gradually becoming one of Asia’s and the world’s wealthiest individuals.

In 1996, Adani Group expanded by developing the largest private thermal power plant in India. The success of his business ventures helped him secure a series of major deals, from the Abbot Point port to the Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, Australia.

Adani's biggest breakthrough came in May 2020 when he won a bid for the world’s largest solar power project, worth $6 billion. Just four months later, Adani acquired a 74% stake in Mumbai International Airport—India’s second-largest airport by capacity.

After 30 years, from being an employee, Gautam Adani has transformed the company he founded into India's most renowned conglomerate. Despite facing numerous challenges, he has remained a dominant figure in the business world, frequently competing for the title of Asia’s richest person with billionaire Mukesh Ambani.

Most recently, businessman Gautam Adani surpassed Mukesh Ambani to become India’s richest person, according to the Hurun India Rich List 2024, published at the end of August.

In 2023, Adani faced an investigation report by Hindenburg Research, which accused the billionaire of orchestrating the largest fraud in history. His Adani Group denied all allegations, claiming the information was baseless.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India declared that it found no evidence of “market manipulation” at Adani Group. India’s Supreme Court later closed the investigation. As a result, the conglomerate swiftly resumed its operations.
