DNHN - Hanoi will provide market information to over 500 businesses, and training and advice to over 100 enterprises to improve their competitiveness and supply capacity.
According to information from the Hanoi Statistical Office, in January 2024, businesses headquartered in the capital exported goods worth 1.505 billion USD, a significant increase of 42.7% compared to the same period in 2023.
The Director of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr Vu Ba Phu, said that on 7 February 2024, the event “Vietnamese Lunar New Year 2024 Honour Week” was opened at the Carrefour supermarket in France. This is the third consecutive year, since 2022, that this event has been held at the Carrefour supermarket to promote Vietnamese products to European consumers.
In addition, the close cooperation between the Japanese Aeon Group and the European and American Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) has promoted the organisation of Vietnamese Goods Weeks in Japan, Thailand, and Europe. As a result, businesses have had the opportunity to increase their direct exports to foreign distribution systems such as Aeon, Lotte, Metro, Auchan, etc.
However, according to economic experts, although Vietnamese goods are present in many demanding markets, their market share is still modest. The main reason is that businesses are not patient enough and lack the determination to pursue this difficult goal.
Ms Vu Thi Hau, former Chairwoman of the Vietnam Retailers Association, explained that some businesses are still not honest about the quality of their products, so there is no change in production methods to improve quality and price.
To address this issue, the Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Mr Nguyen Manh Quyen, announced that the city has issued a Plan to implement the Project “Promoting Vietnamese Businesses to Directly Participate in Foreign Distribution Networks by 2030” in 2024. This plan aims to encourage businesses to participate in the global production, supply, and distribution chain, exporting directly to foreign distribution networks, thereby taking advantage of the strengths and exploiting the competitive advantages of Hanoi’s export goods.
In order to support businesses, Hanoi will provide market information to over 500 businesses, and training and advice to over 100 businesses to improve their competitiveness and supply capacity. In addition, the city will also organise Vietnamese Goods Weeks at foreign distribution networks to introduce and promote Vietnamese goods to international partners.
