DNHN - As part of his working visit to Japan and participation in the Vietnam National Day at EXPO 2025 Osaka, on September 8, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long held talks with Osaka Governor Yoshimura Hirofumi.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long underscored that the Vietnam–Japan comprehensive strategic partnership is flourishing across multiple fields. He noted the expansion of local-to-local cooperation, with more than 100 established pairings between provinces and cities of the two countries; the growing presence of Osaka businesses in Vietnam; and the increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges that are fostering deeper mutual understanding and stronger bonds between the two nations.
Congratulating Osaka on successfully hosting EXPO twice, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long expressed appreciation to the Osaka authorities for facilitating Vietnam’s participation at EXPO 2025, for organizing Vietnam National Day on September 9, and for their active support of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Osaka.
Affirming that local cooperation is a substantive channel for strengthening bilateral relations, the Deputy Prime Minister called on Osaka to continue expanding collaboration with Vietnamese localities in advanced sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, construction materials, environmental protection, waste management, and food processing technology.
He also encouraged Osaka to promote investment by Japanese enterprises in Vietnam, open additional direct flights to enhance connectivity, and adopt policies to support the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in Japan.
For his part, Governor Yoshimura Hirofumi extended congratulations to Vietnam on the occasion of its 80th National Day and thanked Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long for his presence at EXPO 2025. He emphasized that the Vietnam Pavilion had attracted a large number of visitors, underscoring the role of cultural exchange in deepening mutual understanding and strengthening ties between the peoples of both countries.
Governor Yoshimura also highlighted the outcomes of cooperation between Osaka and Vietnamese localities. Since 2017, Osaka has cooperated with Ho Chi Minh City and expanded collaboration in economics, education, environment, and labor with other provinces. He noted agreements with East Asia University to strengthen human resource training in agriculture and healthcare, and confirmed that Osaka has established a representative office in Vietnam to facilitate Japanese business investment.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long invited Governor Yoshimura Hirofumi to visit Vietnam and attend the Vietnam–Japan Local Cooperation Forum scheduled to be held in Quảng Ninh in November 2025.
Governor Yoshimura welcomed the invitation, affirming his readiness to arrange the visit, and expressed his strong desire to further promote economic cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges, and welcome more high-quality human resources from Vietnam.
