DNHN - With one month to go until race day, preparations are underway for the 2026 BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc.
-
Event Week will take place from November 13 to 15, 2026, at Phu Quoc Marina, featuring the flagship BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc race on Sunday, November 15, alongside a wide range of activities for athletes, children and families.
Building on an estimated total economic impact of US$9.4 million in 2025, this year’s event is expected to continue generating value for Phu Quoc’s tourism and service sectors.
Thousands of domestic and international athletes are expected to compete throughout the event weekend.
Six-time IRONMAN World Champion and triathlon legend Mark Allen will return to Phu Quoc for the fourth consecutive year.
A series of activities at the Phu Quoc Marina integrated resort and entertainment complex will offer a wider range of experiences for athletes, children and families.
Athletes begin their journey to conquer the IRONMAN 70.3 distance.. Event Week will run from 13 to 15 November at Phu Quoc Marina, bringing together thousands of domestic and international athletes for a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90-kilometer bike course, and 21.1-kilometer run.
Held under the direction of the An Giang Department of Culture and Sports, the event is organized by Sunrise Events Vietnam with BIM Group as Title Sponsor. The 2026 edition will combine an internationally recognized endurance race with a wider program designed for athletes, children, families, and the local community.
The event takes place as Phu Quoc continues to strengthen its position as a premium tourism destination and host of international events, with visitor arrivals recording strong growth in 2026. This direction aligns with Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, with greater emphasis on the quality, value, and sustainability of visitor experiences.
The event has grown through a deliberate, staged approach. Phu Quoc first hosted a 5150 triathlon in 2022, followed by the inaugural BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc in 2023. Over three editions, the program has evolved into a full Event Week that attracts athletes who often travel with family, friends, and supporters. Their stays generate demand across accommodation, transport, dining, and other local tourism services.
More than a race, the event has generated significant economic impact for Phu Quoc. Estimated based on attendance, length of stay, and spending on accommodation, dining, transportation and other tourism services, the event’s total economic impact grew from US$1.2 million at the 5150 triathlon in 2022 to US$9.4 million in 2025, representing a compound annual growth rate of approximately 98 percent. These figures demonstrate how large-scale mass-participation sporting events can create value for Phu Quoc’s tourism and service sectors while helping the destination build its capacity and experience in hosting international sporting events.
According to the An Giang Department of Culture and Sports, BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc not only brings athletes together to take on the challenge and promote an active, healthy lifestyle, but also helps strengthen the province’s capacity to host international sporting events while stimulating demand for local tourism and services. For this year’s edition, the Department will continue coordinating with relevant agencies and the Organizer to ensure a safe and professionally delivered event, thereby contributing to the community and Phu Quoc’s development as an international destination.
The Phu Quoc Marina integrated resort and entertainment complex will serve as the central hub for Event Week, hosting the event’s main activities. With accommodation, dining and entertainment offerings located within the same complex, athletes and their companions can conveniently access event activities, unwind after the race and spend more time discovering Phu Quoc.
Mr. Doan Quoc Huy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BIM Group, shared: “As we enter our fourth season of partnership with IRONMAN in Phu Quoc, we believe sports tourism has the potential to become a distinctive part of the Pearl Island’s tourism ecosystem. By hosting the race at the Phu Quoc Marina integrated resort and entertainment complex, BIM Group seeks to connect sport with local discovery experiences, thereby contributing to the growth of Phu Quoc’s tourism brand and strengthening its competitiveness among island destinations across the region.”
The 2026 edition will also welcome Mark Allen, six-time IRONMAN World Champion, for the fourth consecutive year. His presence gives Viet Nam's growing triathlon community direct access to the experience, mindset, and stories of one of the sport's most influential athletes.
Sunrise Events Vietnam will introduce SEV EventConcierge for Event Week. The digital assistant will give athletes and their supporters convenient access to schedules, race information, on-site directions, and preparation guidance. It will also provide information on accommodation, dining, and cultural attractions to help visitors plan their time in Phu Quoc.
Ms. Anh Vo, General Manager of Sunrise Events Vietnam, said: “For us, success is measured by the whole experience we create around race day. It is reflected in an athlete arriving prepared, a child discovering sport, a family choosing to stay and explore, and local businesses sharing in the value the event creates. Our responsibility is to deliver a safe, world-class race and a warm, connected experience around it. In 2026, we are strengthening every part of that journey, from preparation and information to the finish line and the time athletes and their families spend discovering Phu Quoc.”
Alongside the main BIM Group IRONMAN 70.3 Phu Quoc race, Event Week will include SUNRISE SPRINT Viet Nam, IRONKIDS Phu Quoc, Newborns Vietnam/Healthy Vietnam Community Run, and activities at the IRONMAN Village. Together, these events create different entry points into sport, from first-time triathletes and children developing active habits to families and community members participating together.
