DNHN - Viettel remains the number one telecom provider with 56.2% of the mobile subscriber market share. Viettel also successfully bid for the B1 frequency band and is preparing the necessary conditions to deploy 5G this year.
According to the report by the Ministry of Information and Communications at the recent mid-year review conference, in the telecommunications sector, the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) continues to grow sustainably, maintaining its top position with a 56.2% market share in mobile subscribers.
According to information from the Ministry of Information and Communications, Viettel Group achieved consolidated revenue of VND 89.9 trillion (equivalent to 107.6% of the six-month plan), with a growth rate of 9.8%. The pre-tax profit was VND 28.6 trillion (equivalent to 120.7% of the six-month plan). Contributions to the state budget amounted to VND 25.2 trillion (reaching 107% of the six-month plan).
Meanwhile, VNPT Group is estimated to achieve revenue of VND 27.721 trillion (equivalent to 100.02% of the six-month plan), which corresponds to nearly 47% of the annual plan. The pre-tax profit reached VND 3.196 trillion (reaching 100.20% of the six-month plan and over 51% of the annual plan).
Ranking third among the major telecom players, MobiFone Corporation's estimated revenue for the first half of 2024 is VND 11.976 trillion, equivalent to 89.2% of the same period in 2023. The pre-tax profit is estimated at VND 1.257 trillion, equivalent to 92% of the same period in 2023.
For many years, Viettel has maintained its position as the number one telecom provider in terms of mobile subscriber market share. In addition, it has been transitioning 2G subscribers to 4G, preparing to shut down the 2G network in September 2024; successfully bidding for the B1 frequency band (2500-2600 MHz); and preparing the conditions to launch 5G in 2024.
The telecom provider also maintains stable operations in politically and socially unstable countries such as Haiti and Myanmar, with high revenue growth (over 19%). In Mozambique, Movitel (Viettel's brand in Mozambique) has risen to the number one position among seven markets (Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, East Timor, Burundi, Haiti, Mozambique).
Meanwhile, VNPT has been building and expanding telecommunications and IT infrastructure according to the breakthrough direction in infrastructure and technology and successfully bidding for the right to use the 3700-3800 MHz frequency band, laying the foundation for developing 5G network infrastructure in the future.
VNPT also provides digital health solutions, digital education solutions, and implements the construction of a digital society and digital citizens through providing solutions for healthcare, education, social welfare, citizen apps, and VNPT Money.
For MobiFone, despite lower business results compared to the same period in 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications assessed that the enterprise has actively implemented the roadmap to shut down the 2G network and transition subscribers to the 3G and 4G networks as directed by the Ministry and is expected to complete the 2G network shutdown by September 2025.
In the first half of the year, MobiFone focused on product development activities, with many new solutions being developed such as the Electronic Party Member Handbook, 1POS sales solution, tourist information feature under the MobiFone Smart Travel solution, MobiGame service, etc.
In the second half of 2024, all three telecom providers will intensify the deployment of 5G networks after spending significant amounts to secure the rights to use the frequency bands.
