Vietnam ranked 46/132 on the Global Innovation Index for 2023.

DNHN - Positive results were shared by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy regarding the 2023 Global Innovation Index (GII) Report.

In coordination with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the Vietnam Permanent Delegation to the United Nations, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized a workshop to introduce the Innovation Index on the afternoon of 10 October in Hanoi. This conference is organized in-person and online, with meeting locations at the World Intellectual Property Organisation Headquarters and the Vietnam Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

During the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy discussed the Global Innovation Index (GII) Report for 2023. Vietnam ranked 46 out of 132 countries, according to this report. The participating region was rated highly as one of the seven middle-income nations that made significant progress in innovation over the past decade. Vietnam, in particular, has risen two levels since 2022.

Vietnam has also made strides in specific indicators. Vietnam's Innovation Input ranking moved up two positions, from 59 to 57. Vietnam's Innovation Output rose one position, from number 41 to number 40.

In addition, Vietnam ranked behind Singapore (ranked 5th), Malaysia (ranked 36th), and Thailand (ranked 43rd) in the ASEAN region.

Deputy Minister Bui The Duy emphasized that the GII 2023 Report has helped provinces and cities across the country see more clearly the aspects of the Innovation ecosystem that need to be developed and serve as a foundation for developing innovation-based socioeconomic development.

Moreover, the GII 2023 report revealed that several Innovation indicators continue to rise. For instance, the index relating to the number of production software applications related to mobile applications has risen dramatically and now ranks eighth with a score of 82.6.

In addition, creative innovation in the field of culture, contributions of creative works and products, and social media clips have helped define the value of Vietnamese creativity.

Deputy Minister Bui The Duy emphasized that all parties, from the beginning to the end, must contribute to the development of innovation. He also provided examples of indicators that require updating, such as the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Services Import and Export Index; royalties, fees, and new licenses, as well as numerous opportunities to enhance Vietnam's Innovation standing.

Deputy Minister Bui The Duy concluded by expressing hope that the Ministry of Science and Technology will collaborate with relevant agencies to implement assessments with the support of World Intellectual Property Organisation experts. evaluate the level of Innovation, thereby building a tool to assess weaknesses and opportunities in developing Innovation, especially for provinces and localities, so they can orient themselves. advancing in the right direction and enhancing Vietnam's position on the Global Innovation Index.
