Thailand and Vietnam should work together to raise export rice prices

DNHN - Chalermchai Sri-on, Thailand's Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, announced on September 3 that Thailand and Vietnam have agreed to strengthen collaboration to boost export rice prices, assuring more justice in the context of production costs. VOV in Bangkok reported an increase in exports.

The Thai Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives said that the Thai and Vietnamese governments had formed an urgent special working group to execute collaboration. The two nations' special working group is anticipated to convene shortly to examine the terms of the cooperation agreement and to agree on practical measures toward boosting the price of export rice, in keeping with recent increases in rice export production costs.

According to Mr Chalermchai, rice producers are being hit by both the Covid-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine war, although rice export prices have been relatively stable in recent years. Before meeting with Vietnam shortly, Thai authorities will have an internal conference with the Farmers' Association, the Milling Association, export firms, and other associated companies.

Thailand's Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives has stated that encouraging higher export rice prices is the obligation and responsibility of all exporting countries. The fact that Thailand and Vietnam have agreed to work together on this subject is a starting step. In the long run, the two nations would persuade India and many other rice exporting countries to promote cooperation rather than rivalry to keep export rice prices acceptable, therefore benefiting farmers and farmers on the one hand. On the other side, production-export firms support global food security.
