DNHN - On the afternoon of September 20, 2024, Sunwah Group (Hong Kong) donated 250 million VND to the Lào Cai Provincial Fatherland Front Committee to assist in the construction of educational infrastructure, addressing the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.
The funds will be utilized to build or restore educational facilities in areas severely affected by the natural disaster, aiming to mitigate the damage and improve local educational infrastructure.
Mr. Lý Văn Hải, Chairman of the Lào Cai Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and Mr. Phạm Thanh Quang, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Lào Cai, represented the local government and community in receiving the donation. During the handover ceremony, Mr. Lý Văn Hải expressed deep gratitude for Sunwah Group's concern, solidarity, and support for the people of Lào Cai. He also expressed hope that Sunwah Group would continue to send business delegations to Lào Cai to explore the investment environment and opportunities, while reaffirming the province's commitment to providing maximum support.
Representing Sunwah Group, Ms. Janice Le, Chief Representative of Sunwah Group in Hanoi, highlighted the group’s longstanding relationship and cooperation with Vietnam. Beyond being a significant economic partner, Sunwah regularly engages in charitable and community development activities. In light of the recent challenges faced by Lào Cai due to the typhoon and flooding, Sunwah aims to contribute to rebuilding educational facilities to ensure a safe and high-quality learning environment for students. This donation reflects the Group's ongoing commitment to Vietnam, particularly Lào Cai Province, in its recovery efforts following the severe damage caused by the storm. The support will help the province overcome difficulties quickly and contribute to a solid educational infrastructure, laying a foundation for future generations.
In recent years, Sunwah Group has shown particular interest in expanding investment and economic cooperation in Lào Cai Province. Earlier this year, Sunwah signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lào Cai Department of Industry and Trade to develop a smart logistics platform, enhance import-export activities, and attract investment. Consequently, the group has organized several delegations, consisting of enterprises from various Chinese provinces to Lào Cai to explore investment opportunities and infrastructure development in the area. Discussions between Sunwah representatives and Lào Cai provincial leaders are expected to foster further cooperation in investment and logistics, contributing to the region's socio-economic development.
Beyond financial support, Sunwah Group has been actively involved in supporting Vietnam, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2021, Sunwah donated over $200,000 worth of medical supplies, including masks, test kits, and protective equipment, to northern provinces, including Lào Cai, to help localities respond to the pandemic. Earlier, in 2020, the group contributed 5 billion VND to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Fund, along with 60,000 masks and medical supplies to ministries and organizations in Vietnam. These contributions played a significant role in controlling the pandemic in border regions and strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and China, while underscoring Sunwah’s strong commitment to community support and enhancing the Vietnam-Hong Kong relationship.
Sunwah Group, a multinational corporation headquartered in Hong Kong, operates a diverse business network. Its business sectors include seafood, real estate, financial services, coffee, agricultural products, and innovation. Over the past 50 years of doing business in Vietnam, Sunwah has remained committed to contributing to Vietnam’s economic development, serving as a bridge between Hong Kong and Vietnam. Besides being a long-term investor in Vietnam, Sunwah is also a pioneer in community initiatives, contributing to the sustainable development of local communities.
