DNHN - Who wouldn't want to visit Sapa at least once, a place rich in wonders ranging from immense natural wonders to the modest lives of mountain people? Sapa is a land of humility, concealed with numerous natural wonders, where everything is as lovely as a painting of a land full of love. The natural beauty of Sa Pa is mixed with human creativity, as well as the topology of mountains and hills, the green hue of the forest, to produce a lovely place with magnificent scenery, much like a picture organized in a harmonious pattern. The scenery is poetic

Sa Pa is a small village covered by fog all year, a location that everyone wishes to visit whenever they travel to the far Northwest, a sweet, thoughtful girl who leaves us with mixed feelings. Sapa is in the northwest of Vietnam, 38 kilometers southwest of Lao Cai and 376 kilometers from Hanoi. This is a Lao Cai province highland district with a natural area of 68,329 hectares, accounting for 8.24 percent of the province's natural area. It is bordered on the north by Bat Xat district, on the south by Van Ban district, on the east by Bao Thang district, and on the west by Than Uyen district and Lai Chau province.

It is well known that people can go to Sapa through National Highway 4D, which extends from Binh Lu com- mune in Lai Chau, in addition to the major road from Lao Cai city. Although it is recorded in literature that Sa Pa is a place of a minority population, the majority of the popula- tion is Kinh people who live off of agriculture, tourism, and services. Sa Pa is a confluence of natural wonders, including mountains and woods, as well as clouds that stretch across the landscape, giving the impression of a fairyland.
According to information, Sa Pa is situated on a broad swath of land on the slopes of Lo Suay Tong mountain, at a height of 1500 to 1650 meters. Sapa is always engulfed in dense fog as a result of its altitude, giving the impression of floating and generating a curiously lovely dreamlike picture. According to history, a census was taken in 1897 to determine the number of persons who belonged to ethnic minorities in the high highlands.

In the past, Sapa town had a turbid crimson geyser, which the natives called "hung ho," which means "red stream." Sapa was once a small plateau known as Lo Suoi Tung. The French colonial authorities decided to investigate ethnic minorities in the highlands in 1897. In 1898, the first investigative teams came to Lao Cai.
The landscape of Lo Suoi Tung plateau and Sa Pa village were discovered by the expedition of the Department of Geography of Indochina while surveying and mapping in the winter of 1903. Sapa town was founded on this occa- sion.

The French gathered the first data on topography, climate, and vegetation in 1905. SaPa became known for its cool, fresh air and stunning scenery. A sanatorium was erected in 1909. In 1917, a tourist office was founded in SaPa, and the French began construction on the first villas the follow- ing year. When the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway connection was finished in 1920, SaPa was called the summer capital of the North. In Sapa, the French constructed over 300 villas.

The French designed and built SaPa into an ideal resort and nursing home in the 1940s. There is a complete hydro- power system, a water station, a governor's palace, an ambassador's office, a coal department, a treasury, a ranger, an asphalt system, and around 200 Western-style villas in the center. Peach plantations and Samu tree groves surround the town. This gives the impression that this is a European city.
During the 1979 Vietnam-China border battle, SaPa was heavily damaged. Thousands of hectares of pine forest surrounding the town were burned, along with several ancient French-built homes.
Sapa was built and rebuilt several times in the 1990s. Many new hotels and villas have been constructed. In 1990, there were 40 rooms, and by 1995, there were 300. SaPa had approximately 60 major and small hotels with 1,500 rooms in 2003. The number of tourists visiting SaPa has climbed from 2,000 in 1991 to 60,000 in 2002. It has been believed that millions of people visit it each year in recent years.
Many individuals are also curious about the origins of the moniker Sa Pa. In reality, it comes from the H'Mong language, which means "sandy beach," because there was formerly simply a sand beach where locals would hold markets. Because Westerners are unable to read accented words, the term "Sa Pa" becomes Sapa with time, and it is even written as "Cha Pa"
When it comes to names, this place is definitely pro- nounced, and there are other options, but the locals have decided on Sa Pa since it is the easiest to read and write, especially for Western visitors. Sa Pa town is like a jewel, vanishing and reappearing in the misty air before reappear- ing glistening and beautiful in the fresh spring sunshine.

Sapa's climate is unique, given its geographical location near the Tropic of Capricorn in the Asia-tropical belt of the Northern Hemisphere. Its day has all four seasons: in the morning, the weather will be warm like the days of spring, there will be light sunshine at noon with a cool climate like the days entering summer, and in the afternoon, clouds and dew will begin to fall, bringing with it the chilly feeling.

Sapa, influenced by the mountainous terrain and highly fragmented, has its own distinct traits. The average annual rainfall ranges from 1800 to 2200 mm, with the most of the rain falling between May and August. In the summer, Sa Pa has two main wind directions and is distributed in two distinct seasons. Winter will be affected by north and northeast winds, with west and northwest winds. Sapa town is the only site in Vietnam that has snow, as well as a typical Vietnamese town.

Sapa is located at an elevation of over 1600 meters above sea level. The temperature here in the winter is exception- ally low, frequently falling below 0 degrees Celsius. This is the weather for snow to fall, which is much more exciting when you can touch the snow and play snow games for the first time in your life. Sitting by the fire, sipping hot tea, or conversing with friends is a wonderful sensation.

Traveling to Sapa at this time will let you take in the breathtaking natural environment of mountains and forests blanketed in white snow. It is impossible to predict when and how much snow will fall in Sapa because it is dependent on the weather each year. In recent years, though, the gloomy town has been blanketed in ice and snow from mid-December to mid-Jan- uary. Many years, the phenomenon of snowfall only lasts approximately 1-2 days, so good luck if you plan to "seek the snow" in Sapa. On winter days in Sapa, the city is also shrouded in fog. They resemble delicate chiffon sheets that are draped about buildings, forests, or mountain slopes to create a beautiful and charming scene.

The natural picture has been delicately embellished with peach and plum colors, making it more appealing. In addition, spring is a festival-filled season. You will be immersed in the hectic life of the city on this occasion. The stalls, markets, and love market in Sapa are still bustling with buyers and sellers, accompanied by the trumpet music of the mountain town's boys and girls.

Sapa has pleasant sunshine in the summer, not too hot but warm enough to dissipate the dew, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. The temperature decreases to around 15 degrees Celsius as night approach- es. - It's just 18 degrees Celsius, so it's a little cool. When traveling along the route to Sapa in early March and April, you will notice the blooming banyan flowers along the way; the view is as poetic as the image typically seen in Korean films. In addition, in the summer, woodland rhododendron flow- ers of all hues bloom in Sapa, creating an extremely vibrant natural scene.

Sapa is crowded and aromatic with the perfume of ripe rice around the end of September. Those who enjoy backpack- ing and the Northwest generally spend a lot of time here at this stage. Perhaps they enjoy this period because it com- bines the beauty of the mountains with the hustle and bustle of the inhabitants. It's not difficult to witness a mother carrying her child to harvest rice, or the peaks of the mountains, which were before only green, have now been stained a bright yellow and stretch to the horizon.

When it comes to Sapa, the most striking feature is the wonderful blend of natural landscape and the basic and rustic cultural life of the ethnic minority who live there. Sapa town has been "converted" into an extraordinarily fantastical fairyland due to the hilly topography, which is filled with the green of the mountains and woods, as well as the song of forest birds in the drifting clouds. Sapa likewise has the charm of a simple, tranquil region, but it also has numerous wonders, which may elicit strong emotions in visitors. The Kinh, H'Mong, Red Dao, Tay, Giay, and Xa Pho ethnic groups all live in this area. In Sapa, the H'Mong ethnic group constitutes more than half of the population. Sapa's cultural and spiritual life is also richer as a result of this variety. Although ethnic minorities make up the bulk of Sapa's population, Kinh residents in the town center rely on agriculture and tourism.

Sa Pa, a virgin country containing communities of ethnic minorities such as H'Mong, Dao, Tay, Xa Pho... with Silver Waterfall, Heaven Gate, Cloud Bridge, Wind Cave, Ham Rong Mountain, Fansipan Peak... merits it. is a destination for individuals who enjoy nature and wish to learn about the culture and habits of mountain people. Despite the fact that it is around 378 kilometers from Hanoi, it has never become a barrier. Many riders have opted to ride motorcy- cles from Hanoi to Sapa in order to get the best sense of the grandeur of this location. Pack your bags and join me as I explore Sapa's most gorgeous tourist attractions!
