DNHN - Despite numerous obstacles, Vietnam's wood and forest products industry is determined to reach its 2023 export goal of up to 18 billion US dollars.
The Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association reported that the export of forest products has reached over USD 6.42 billion since the beginning of the year, a decrease of 28.8 percent compared to the same period last year, but a contribution of 36 percent compared to the original plan. go outside. To achieve this lofty objective, the industry is proactively implementing a series of innovative and production-boosting measures.
In response to the challenges posed by the global market, the wood and forest product industry swiftly identified and implemented the most suitable strategies. The association's representative stated that despite the sharp decline in wood exports, there are still outstanding growth groups. Specifically, exports of fiberboard products totaled nearly 32 million US dollars, a threefold increase over the same period last year. Simultaneously, exports of wood chip products surpassed $1 billion, a 3% increase from the previous year. China and Japan remain the primary markets for Vietnam's wood chips, accounting for more than 70% of export revenue.
To aggressively promote the export of forest products, the Association recommends that companies in the sector find a unique direction and innovate product designs. Increase the production of wooden furniture in particular to meet the diverse demands of the international market. The development of the niche market is also an important direction, as it enables the industry to maintain growth despite the challenging global market.
In addition, the forest industry plays a significant role in achieving the export goal of 18 billion USD by 2023. Through the review and effective implementation of forestry development strategies for the period 2021-2030, with a focus on sustainable development, the industry is proactively addressing and solving environmental challenges and export markets.
In particular, strengthening coordination in preventing trade fraud and controlling timber imports from high-risk countries is viewed as a necessary measure to maintain competitive equilibrium and facilitate competition. favorable for Vietnam's wood and forest products industry.
Utilizing the free trade agreements that Vietnam has signed plays an important role in promoting the export of forest products in a world that is constantly evolving. Effective utilization of agreements such as CPTPP, EVFTA, and RCEP will allow wood industry businesses to access new markets, increase their competitiveness, and increase exports.
Vietnam's Wood and Forest Products industry believes that the USD 18 billion export target for 2023 is no longer a far-fetched goal with determination, joint efforts, and good coordination among businesses and relevant management agencies.
