DNHN - Nam Can Tho University (NCTU) aims to transform into a top-tier training facility by 2030, catering to the needs of global collaboration, the labour market, and social needs.
NCTU wants to become as prestigious as top institutions in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in areas including science and technology, socioeconomics, and healthcare.
A Multidisciplinary, Multi-level, and Multi-system University
Nam Can Tho University was founded on January 25, 2013, by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 230/QD-TTg. It was authorised to operate by the Ministry of Education and Training on April 12 under Decision No. 1335/QD-BGDĐT. The university's objectives are to train highly skilled human resources, carry out scientific research, transfer technology, and offer consulting services that are in line with societal demands. To support the socioeconomic development of the Mekong Delta region and the nation as a whole, NCTU concentrates on applied research in the fields of healthcare, socioeconomics, and engineering technology.

To develop NCTU into a multidisciplinary, multi-level, and multi-system university that trains human resources to meet the requirements of the country’s industrialisation, modernisation, and digital transformation in line with the 4.0 revolution both domestically and in the Southeast Asian region, the university will focus on three breakthrough directions: Developing synchronous and modern facilities that adequately meet the research and teaching needs of staff, lecturers, and the learning and research needs of students; Building a team of highly qualified lecturers who employ learner-centred active teaching methods and develop curricula that cater to real-world societal needs; Promoting scientific and technological activities and international cooperation with countries with advanced education systems to provide multidisciplinary and multi-level training.

Additionally, the university integrates the enterprise model with academia by establishing businesses like the DNC Institute of Medicinal Materials Research and Development, Nam Can Tho General Hospital Company Limited, Nam Can Tho DNC Trading Company Limited, and Southern Corporation, all of which help to create an environment that encourages the development of skills in students. These organisations help the university create training programmes that are in line with real-world industry, offer incentives and scholarships every year, and help students find jobs. With this strategy, the university can consistently provide skilled labour to DNC businesses, allowing them to carry out their corporate operations.
From School to Hospital Model
The Nam Can Tho University Faculty of Medicine is now officially accredited as a worldwide recognised medical education institution by being listed among the medical universities that satisfy the standards set by the esteemed WDOMs (World Directory of Medical Schools). With this acknowledgement, NCTU medical students will also have the chance to sit for the US Medical Licencing Examination (USMLE) and gain admission as foreign medical students.

In Can Tho, students pursuing healthcare-related fields at NCTU also have the opportunity to undertake practical training at Nam Can Tho University Hospital. This hospital represents a total investment of approximately VND 860 billion for the construction of facilities and equipment in phase 1. By 2027, Nam Can Tho University Hospital plans to complete phase 2, adding 500 more beds with an investment of approximately VND 1,200 billion for the construction of a 20-storey building and additional equipment. The hospital aims to become a modern healthcare facility that meets international standards, catering to the medical needs of the local population and alleviating the burden on higher-level hospitals. This will enable residents to receive medical examinations and treatment locally, reducing costs for patients and the healthcare system while creating better conditions and opportunities for people to access healthcare services.

A Top Multidisciplinary University with the Best Scientific Activities in the Mekong Delta
The university has undertaken three provincial and municipal-level projects, and 20 grassroots-level projects, and published 350 scientific articles in reputable international journals. The state has also recognised five nationwide initiatives. Dr. Nguyen Van Quang, the university’s president, affirms, “Nam Can Tho University firmly believes that scientific research and training are the two pillars of a global university. Scientific and technological activities not only generate scientific and technological products that serve society but also primarily enhance the quality of education. The key to universities lies in creating new knowledge. Without actively promoting scientific and technological development, universities will merely transmit knowledge without innovation.”
Notably, NCTU consistently achieves a 95% employment rate for its graduates, and the number of students enrolled continues to grow. In 2023, the total number of students and trainees at the university exceeded 23,500. The Ministry of Education and Training has also granted NCTU permission to offer two new programmes: Dentistry and Preventive Medicine.

Additionally, a bachelor's degree in business administration is now offered at NCTU and in Malaysia thanks to a partnership with Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST).
