Exporting to the EU: Beware of mixed products containing ingredients of animal origin

DNHN - EU amends the form of a food safety certificate for consignments of mixed products containing ingredients of animal origin imported and transited into the EU.

Information to the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium and the EU, on July 15, 2022, the European Commission issued Implementation Regulation No. (EU) 2022/1219 (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1219) on amending change the form of the Food Safety Certificate for consignments of mixed products containing ingredients of animal origin imported and transited into the EU (mainly related to mixed products containing milk).

Specifically, the EU amends the mixed food safety certificate form specified in Chapter 50 and Chapter 52, Annex III of EU Regulation No. a mixture of imports and transits into the EU.

The current form of Food Safety Certificate for consignments of mixed foods specified in Chapters 50 and 52 of Regulation No. 2020/2235 will continue to be applied until April 15, 2023, provided that the Certificates attached to such shipments shall be issued before January 15, 2023.

It is known that according to previous regulations, food products imported into the EU are classified as follows: Preserved mixed food products with no expiry date; preserved mixed products containing ingredients from meat; Preserved mixed products that do not contain meat ingredients. For mixed products without preservatives and preserved products containing meat ingredients, a separate certification is required.

Previously, the EU regulated that mixed foods containing more than 50% of ingredients from products of animal origin applied the same control as foods of animal origin. The same regulations apply to mixed foods containing less than 50% food ingredients of animal origin as those for mixed foods of plant origin.
