The Trade Connection Programme serves as a vital component within the Cooperation Agreement between the Canadian Trade Promotion Organisation and the Department of Trade Promotion. Its primary objective is to bolster the export capacities of small and medium-sized enterprises. Vietnam, particularly enterprises owned by women.
According to Ms. Tran Thu Quynh, Commercial Counsellor at the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada, the programme currently involves the participation of as many as thirty Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises. These enterprises primarily operate in the agricultural products and processed foods sectors. By participating in training courses and approaching Canadian purchasing partners directly, these companies have gained a deeper understanding of the Canadian market and customer demands, which has aided in the development and quality improvement of their products. intense competition.
In addition to supplying businesses with market intelligence, the programme assists them in comprehending emerging market demands, quality standards, and concerns about plastic packaging and recycled content. packaging—recent and stringent requirements in the Canadian market.
Ms Tran Thu Quynh thinks that coordinating direct connection sessions in 2024 will yield favourable outcomes, assisting Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises in their sustainable development, particularly in challenging environments. The speaker placed significant emphasis on the criticality of inter-institutional connections and supportive policies in fostering exports and economic growth.
The positive trajectory of Vietnam's exports to Canada can be attributed to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that has been established between the two nations. The bilateral export turnover experienced a substantial surge, surpassing 65% growth, from 3.9 billion USD in 2019 to 6.3 billion USD in 2022. Despite a decline of 13.5% in exports to Canada during the initial ten months of 2023 compared to the corresponding period in 2022, this represents a significant stride in the direction of fostering trade cooperation between the two nations.
