In the structure of fruit species, dragon fruit is the first fruit of Vietnam to be exported to the US market. In 2008 - the first year dragon fruit was exported to this market only reached 100 tons, by 2012 it increased 10 times, to 1,200 tons.

Although the export of Vietnamese fruits in the structure of the US's HS 081090 fruit code has grown steadily over the years, it is still too low compared to the actual demand in this market. Therefore, the Import-Export Department said, domestic export enterprises still have the opportunity to increase market share in the coming time.

The European-American Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco (USA) has implemented a project to bring Vietnamese goods into the foreign distribution system, from the beginning of 2022.

Accordingly, the Trade Office branch in San Francisco has lobbied and coordinated with domestic agencies, enterprises and US enterprises to import fresh Vietnamese lychees for consumption in the US market, especially in the West Coast states of the United States.

After many efforts, with the close coordination of domestic agencies and enterprises, recently the first lychees by sea from Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces were distributed and displayed by Dragonberry Produce Company at Safeway and Albersons supermarkets in Washington, Oregon and California states. These are the two supermarket chains with the largest network on the West Coast of the United States; in which Safeway has 773 stores, and Albersons has over 340 stores. Dragonberry Produce's representative said, currently, there are 2 other containers by the sea that are also on their way to the US port and continue to be consumed at the above supermarket chains with the selling price of 4.99 USD/bag of 430 grams.

The success of Dragonberry in deploying the shipping plan by sea is an important and decisive solution to strongly promote the export of litchi to the US market shortly.

According to the European-American Market Department, this is a big step forward in promoting the consumption of Vietnamese fruits in general and lychees in particular in the US market because most of Vietnam's fruit exported to the United States can only access the system of markets and small supermarkets serving Asian consumers
