Actively promoting and boosting Vietnamese lychee exports to China

DNHN - With China's reopening and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, localities, and businesses actively promoting consumption in other markets, lychee exports are projected to increase by 2023.

Vietnam's lychee exports will reach 47.4 million USD in 2021, and 27.4 million USD in 2022, primarily due to the implementation of China's Zero Covid policy, Vietnam's primary market.

With China's reopening and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, localities, and businesses actively promoting consumption in other markets, lychee exports are projected to increase by 2023.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, shared at the trade promotion conference with the system of Vietnam's foreign trade offices in May 2023, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, that with China as the main market, opening up will be an opportunity for enterprises to export.

Despite being the largest producer of lychees in the world, China's litchi harvest occurs from February to July. This indicates that China's lychee production is extremely low in June (the end of the season). This is a favorable time for Vietnamese litchi to approach this market and promote exports.

To export lychee to China, the quality of Vietnam's fruit must be guaranteed, as it must be grown by the VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. In addition, Mr. Nguyen stated that during the harvest season, conditions must be created for Chinese traders to come to our country to buy and sell, including the facilitation of visas and transportation.

Large producing regions, such as Bac Giang, Hai Duong, etc., are also attempting to enhance the quality of their fruit to increase their access to international markets and their competitiveness against rivals.

Despite the efforts and results achieved, it is anticipated that this year's crop will face numerous challenges. Consequently, the seasonality of fabric is only concentrated for a month and a half, so logistics expenses will remain high.

China's order 248, 249 continues to present challenges for a variety of businesses. The litchi produced by Hai Duong meets the technical requirements of the Japanese and European Union markets, but the company's negotiating power is still limited.

Facing the aforementioned obstacles, the provincial leaders of Bac Giang suggested that the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade continue to negotiate with the relevant authorities to establish optimal conditions for lychee consumption. Traders and business branches remain attentive and oriented toward assisting the province in its trade promotion efforts. The provincial and municipal Departments of Industry and Trade continue to support the implementation of regional linkages, transport connections, and the introduction of retail groups and super product chains in Bac Giang province...

Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai of the Ministry of Industry and Trade suggested that ministries and branches diversify export markets and products, as well as distribution channels. Pay close attention to cross-border e-commerce because "this is still a viable solution in the short and long term." At the same time, gain extensive access to the Chinese market, including not only provinces bordering Vietnam but also other regions.
