Vietnam aspires to be Southeast Asia's dominant maritime power by 2030

DNHN - Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh recently signed Decision No. 892/QD-TTg authorizing the project on constructing clusters of marine economic sectors related to the development of strong marine economic centres up to 2030.

To develop clusters of marine economic sectors, first and foremost in key areas, with the benefits associated with developing a strong multi-industry marine economic centre of a country with high international integration competitiveness and gradually opening up a spread to the entire region; focus on developing and linking industries in conjunction with building dual-use marine economic centres that combine economy with national defence in key areas for national defence and security.

Focus on creating and forming areas that attract strong development of related marine economic enterprises and establishments working together, as well as linking production and business cooperation to form the country's marine economic business centres in terms of marine economic sectors and multi-sectors associated with international seaport zones, economic zones, large coastal cities, tourist areas, large exploitation and production areas in coastal areas and at sea; encouraging the attraction of large enterprises, large-scale investment projects, application and transfer of advanced technologies in key areas of nuclear generation, the driving force for development and spreading the expansion of industrial clusters marine economics.

The project's goal is to construct strong national marine economic centres while also generating clusters of marine economic sectors with effective development, high competitiveness, and integration.

Rapidly and sustainably develop the marine economy of the whole country and sea and coastal regions in all sectors of economics, culture, society, environment, defence, and security, to transform Vietnam into a powerful maritime nation in the future till 2030

After ten years, Vietnam is planning to have built seven clusters of marine economic industry connections in attractive coastal and marine locations, as part of the country's efforts to become a powerful marine economic centre.

By 2030, Vietnam will have three or four of the most powerful maritime economic hubs in Southeast Asia. The economic growth rate in industrial clusters and maritime economic hubs will be 1-2 times that of the national average.

According to the project's orientation, the marine economic cluster will prioritize the development of services and products with added value chains, attracting large enterprises or large-scale investment projects with high technology application... contributing to green growth, marine ecological environment protection, marine economy... From there, these approaches to integrating marine economic growth would help to consolidate and improve national defence and maritime security.

Particularly in the central sea region, the southwest sea (Kien Giang, Ca Mau...) will emphasize the development of the tourist economy with centres and complexes of eco-tourism, entertainment, and sea resorts.
