The FIDO standards and future promises of passwordless login

This is a new encryption method that several big tech companies will start using soon. It will make it possible for users to sign in on all platforms without a password.
Passwords in the classic sense are becoming more outdated than ever, with authentication without a password becoming increasingly common using a variety of protocols such as a physical key, email, or biometrics. For many applications, these protocols will strengthen security, improve user experience, and make it easier to remember passwords.

FIDO was made in July 2012 to fix the fact that strong authentication methods weren't always compatible with each other and to help users set up and remember a lot of usernames and passwords.
The FIDO Alliance is changing the way authentication works by creating a set of open, extensible, and interoperable technologies that can be used instead of passwords to make authentication easier and more secure.
Recently, three technological behemoths—Apple, Google, and Microsoft—announced a combined commitment to expand support for the FIDO passwordless standard. This new technology will be deployed to all Android and iOS mobile devices; Windows and macOS PCs; and web browsers such as Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
This new technique works by consumers just unlocking their phones after logging onto a website or smartphone app. Smartphones save FIDO credentials, known as key codes, which are used to unlock internet accounts, increasing security throughout the login process. Even if the user's phone is lost, the login information is saved in the cloud, and the user may continue to use the service by unlocking the login.
Google argues that today's typical passwords are vulnerable to threats such as fraud and are readily compromised, resulting in online vulnerability. Google has developed various methods of signing in to safeguard the account while it is in use, such as 2-factor authentication and its own password manager.
Google pioneered the use of encryption to unlock applications on all platforms. Google has identified several milestones in the history of password use, and a commitment to new authentication technologies will be adopted in the future.

Apple, for its part, is working hard to build devices that are both intuitive and secure. Apple wants to improve security by using new, more secure ways to sign in. The goal is to get rid of password vulnerabilities, which is a key part of its promise.
Microsoft, like Apple and Google, believes that passwords will be completely eliminated in the future. FIDO technology has enabled existing technological platforms for consumers or enterprises to experience unlocking. without a password on all of Microsoft's services and apps.
The plan for deploying FIDO technology has not been established, although it has been in the works for many years, with big technology businesses committing to platforms. Users may be able to use the new technology as early as this year or as late as 2023.
