According to data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 464.5 million USD in August 2023, a 14.8% increase compared to July 2023 and a 71.5% increase compared to August 2022. In the first eight months of 2023, exports of fruits and vegetables reached $3.5 billion, a 61.8% increase over the same period in 2022.

This robust expansion is primarily attributable to rising export values to the Chinese market. The value of fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market increased by 186.3% from August 2022 to August 2023, reaching 266.3 million USD. The value of fruit and vegetable exports to China reached $2.3 billion in the first eight months of 2023, a 134% increase over the same period in 2022.

Other export markets, including Korea, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates, have also recorded positive growth rates.

In the third and fourth quarters of 2023, the nation is anticipated to consume approximately 7.6 million tonnes of key fruits. Due to increased demand, fruit and vegetable exports typically reach their highest levels during the last few months of the year. Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are anticipated to surpass $5 billion this year, following a period of significant expansion.

It should be noted, however, that exporting fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market must adhere to quarantine regulations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has been notified by the General Administration of Customs of China that certain fruits exported from Vietnam violate quarantine regulations.

In addition to issuing planting area codes, localities must strictly control recruitment information to ensure its authenticity. To meet China's increasingly stringent quarantine regulations, manufacturing companies must also adhere to the VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
