DNHN - Phu Quy tourism has been developing rapidly in recent years. The pristine beauty, tranquillity and unique cultural identity of this island district have attracted an increasing number of visitors for sightseeing and relaxation.
However, despite its great potential, Phu Quy’s tourism industry still faces certain limitations in terms of infrastructure and diversity of tourism products. Recognising this, the district authorities have set a goal of developing tourism sustainably and safely, in line with environmental protection and the preservation of traditional cultural values. Specifically, Phu Quy aims to attract long-staying visitors who spend more and return in the future, while gradually building the brand of an attractive island destination in the region.
To realise this vision, Phu Quy is focusing on implementing many integrated solutions. First and foremost is the overall tourism development plan for the period up to 2025 with a vision to 2030, including detailed planning for each sub-zone and implementation of key projects such as the Phu Quy Tourist Area, the Marine Conservation Area and the Night-time Economy Development Project.
In parallel with planning, the authorities are also focusing on attracting investment, especially from reputable and experienced strategic investors in the field of island tourism. The call for investment is focused on key projects such as commercial centres, high-end resorts and entertainment complexes. Businesses are provided with maximum support in terms of administrative procedures, creating a transparent investment environment.
In addition, Phu Quy is constantly innovating and upgrading the quality of its tourism products. The locality is developing a variety of types such as beach tourism, sports, entertainment, cultural and spiritual tourism, ecotourism and community tourism. Visitors can experience many exciting activities such as coral diving, fishing and boat trips around the island. Festivals and cultural events are also organised regularly to attract visitors.
Phu Quy also places great importance on the quality of its tourism workforce. Many training and development programmes are being implemented to improve the skills and professional qualifications of management staff, tour guides and service staff. Efforts are also being made to raise public awareness of the importance of tourism.
Finally, environmental and landscape issues are also a top priority. The authorities are both raising awareness among residents and visitors and strictly dealing with violations. A waste and wastewater treatment system has been planned in a structured manner. Trees are being planted in large numbers to enhance the beauty of the landscape and improve the ecology.
In 2024, Phu Quy Island will focus on some key economic development models to maximise the exploitation of natural resources and geographical advantages. These models include enhancing the maritime economy, sustainable tourism and renewable energy industries.
With the maritime and fishing industry being the main economic activity on the island, fishing still plays an important role. The local authorities are likely to continue supporting the modernisation of fishing methods and facilities, which could include upgrading port facilities and supporting fisheries businesses that complement traditional fishing methods.
Phu Quy is increasingly becoming a destination for ecotourism and adventure tourism, exploiting its unspoilt natural beauty and cultural heritage. Efforts are being made to improve infrastructure such as accommodation and transport to cater for the growing number of tourists while protecting the island’s environment. The local authorities aim to make tourism a major driver of economic growth by encouraging longer stays and increasing tourist spending on the island.
The island has potential in the field of renewable energy, particularly wind power. Plans to explore and potentially expand renewable energy sources include installing additional wind turbines to ensure sustainable energy solutions, reduce dependence on imported fuels and contribute to environmental protection.
These development models are underpinned by infrastructure improvements such as the inauguration of a new energy management centre, which aims to provide stable and sustainable energy solutions for the entire island. This is part of a wider initiative to ensure that development in sectors such as tourism and fishing does not negatively impact the environmental health or quality of life of the island’s inhabitants.
These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to making Phu Quy a model of sustainable island development in Vietnam. Phu Quy is an island that is focusing on key economic development models to leverage its natural resources and geographical advantages in 2024.
With a comprehensive system of solutions ranging from planning, investment promotion and product development to service quality improvement and environmental protection, Phu Quy’s tourism industry is expected to make a breakthrough in the coming period, providing a driving force for the local socio-economic development. This requires the efforts of the entire political system, the business community and the people of the island. However, with the political determination and cooperation of all stakeholders, it is believed that Phu Quy tourism will go far and become a bright spot on the Vietnamese tourism map.
