Over 2,000 athletes participate in Can Tho City Cross-Country Race 2024

DNHN - On March 24, at Hau River Park, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City organised the third Can Tho City Cross-Country Race in 2024.
The race was organised to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2024), the 78th anniversary of Vietnamese Sports Day (March 27, 1946 - March 27, 2024), and to continue implementing the campaign “The entire population exercises in the footsteps of the great Uncle Ho”.
More than 2,000 athletes from departments, agencies, districts, schools, hospitals, organisations, and individuals living, studying, and working in the city participated in the race. The athletes competed in four categories: women’s 5km race for ages 40 and under and 41 and over; men’s 10km race for ages 50 and under and 51 and over.
In his opening speech, Mr Truong Cong Quoc Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City said: “This is an annual sporting event held in Can Tho City, with the special support and sponsorship of S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital. Cross-country running is an important sport, demonstrating the determination and strength of the athletes, and always receives positive attention and support from society.
With the desire to promote the campaign “The entire population exercises in the footsteps of the great Uncle Ho”, to promote the mass sports movement among the people and because of the importance of the tournament, I hope that the referees will focus on doing their job well, uphold their sense of responsibility so that the competitions are “Objective - Fair - Accurate” and lay the foundation for raising the level of the tournament in subsequent organisations.”
After the competition, the tournament concluded with the following results: in the men’s 10km race for ages 50 and under, athlete Mao Quoc Toai (Binh Thuy) won first place, athlete Mao Quoc Tien (Binh Thuy) won second place, and athlete Nguyen Hoang Phuc (Ninh Kieu) won third place; in the men’s 10km race for ages 51 and over, athlete Le Hong Hiep (Binh Thuy) won first place, athlete Van Cong Phung (Team Hop Luc) won second place, and athlete Le Van Minh (Team Hop Luc) won third place; in the women’s 5km race for ages 40 and under, athlete Doan Thi Hien (Phong Dien) won first place, athlete Vu Thi Hong Van (Thoi Lai) won second place, and athlete Ho Minh Trang Nha (Team Hop Luc) won third place; in the women’s 5km race for ages 41 and over, athlete Nguyen Thi Sa Ly (Binh Thuy) won first place, athlete Nguyen Anh Hoa (Phong Dien) won second place, and athlete Pham Ngoc Trinh (Team Hop Luc) won third place.
