Enterprises in May: Decrease in number, average capital also drops

DNHN - A newly established business in the month had an average registered capital of 8.6 billion VND, a decrease of 11.5% from the previous month and 8.8% from the same time period the previous year.
According to a report by the General Statistics Office of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, there were only over 12,000 newly established businesses in the entire country in May 2023, with a registered capital of 103.7 trillion VND. This represents a decrease of 24.2% in the number of businesses and 32.8% in the registered capital compared to the previous month. Compared to the same time period in the previous year, the number of new businesses decreased by 9.5%, while registered capital decreased by 17.5%. A newly established business in the month had an average registered capital of 8.6 billion VND, a decrease of 11.5% from the previous month and 8.8% from the same time period the previous year. In addition, 5,952 businesses have resumed operations, a decrease of 38.1% from the previous month and an increase of 14.4% from the same period in 2022.

In the first five months of 2023, the entire country registered more than 61,900 new businesses with a total registered capital of 568.7 trillion dong, a decrease of 1.6% in quantity and a decrease of 25.3% in registered capital compared to the same period last year. A newly founded business in the first five months of the year has an average registered capital of VND 9.2 billion, down 24.1% from the same period in 2022. If the additional registered capital from 21, 000 enterprises is added, the total registered capital added to the economy in the first five months of 2023 was 1,393,7 trillion dong, which was 43% less than the same period in the previous year. In addition, nearly 33,000 businesses have returned to operation, bringing the total number of new businesses and enterprises returning to operation in the first five months of 2023 to nearly 95,000, a 3.7% decrease from the same period in the previous year.
According to the General Statistics Office, approximately 19,000 new businesses are established or resume operations each month on average. However, in May 2023, 5,364 businesses were registered to cease operations for an indefinite period, a decrease of 25.1% from the previous month and an increase of 8.0% from the same month in 2022. Additionally, there are 4,717 businesses that are closing and awaiting dissolution procedures.
55.2 thousand enterprises temporarily suspended operations in the first five months of 2023, an increase of 20.3% over the same period in 2022; 25.5 thousand enterprises are closing and awaiting dissolution procedures, an increase of 34.1%; and 7.3 thousand enterprises have completed dissolution procedures, an increase of 6.4%. In the first five months of the year, 88 thousand businesses withdrew from the market, representing a 22.6% increase over the same period in 2022. Each month, an average of 17,6 thousand businesses withdrew from the market.
