According to the VNA, in the opening speech of the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that over the years, the wood, forestry, and fishery export processing industry and our country's seafood industry have always been interested in developing, becoming the main export value, the shining star of the agricultural industry, and one of the very few industries with a high trade surplus of over 10 billion USD; making significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

In 2022, it is anticipated that the export of wood and forest products will exceed the plan by 3.8%, reaching 17,1 billion USD; this industry also has an export target of 17.5 billion USD for 2023. In 2022, seafood exports totaled 11 billion USD, a 23.8% increase over the same period in 2021 and a 22.2% increase over the industry's target (9 billion USD); this was the highest amount ever; the industry's target for 2023 is 10 billion USD. The forestry-fisheries sector has acted as a growth engine; created jobs and livelihoods for people; and contributed to the development of an independent and self-sufficient economy through proactive, active, extensive, and efficient integration.

The conference was organized to assess the current situation, propose solutions to remove obstacles, and promote the production, processing, and export of forest and aquatic products; in the spirit of assisting businesses, finding good solutions, new ways of doing things, and adapting to domestic, regional, and global market conditions to assist businesses in overcoming obstacles and challenges and promoting the production, processing, and export of forestry and fishery products to develop s.

The Prime Minister asked the delegates to identify fully, accurately, and objectively the difficulties and obstacles affecting the production, processing, and consumption of wood, forestry, and fishery products; the experiences and lessons of industries and enterprises in responding to and overcoming difficulties and obstacles; the good experiences and practices that must be replicated in the future; and the key tasks and solutions that require both immediate and long-term implementation. Focus on discussing and clarifying the issues, tasks, solutions, and responsibilities of each ministry, branch, agency, and business to eliminate problems, obstacles, and impediments, promote rapid and sustainable development, and achieve the set objectives.
