Vinacomin has agreed to deliver approximately 18.7 million tonnes of coal in the second half of the year, with the total expected to reach 39.7 million tonnes.

Vinacomin, the Vietnam Coal-Mineral Industry Group, is committed to meeting the increasing demand for coal in the country's power generation sector. Mr. Dang Thanh Hai, the company's CEO, recently announced that Vinacomin plans to supply approximately 18.7 million tonnes of coal in the second half of the year, with a total of 39.7 million tonnes anticipated for the entire year. This represents a 15% increase over the same period in 2022.

Vinacomin emphasized its commitment to implementing the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade regarding the supply of coal to thermal power plants in a detailed report on coal supply for the first six months of the year and a plan for the remaining months. Notably, the Prime Minister's instructions during his business trip to the province of Quang Ninh on June 11, 2023, highlighted the significance of ensuring coal resources during the dry season months, including May 6 and 7, 2023.

In the first half of the year, Vinacomin successfully supplied thermal power plants with a total of 20,981 million tonnes of coal. This includes the delivery of 17,269 million tonnes in the first five months, and an estimated 3.712 million tonnes will be delivered in June. This represents 54.5% of the contract volume, which is 115.2% more than the previous year. 2022 (an additional 2.76 million tonnes).

Notable is Vinacomin's implementation of an aggressive strategy to satisfy the peak coal demand of thermal power plants during the dry season months. The 9th of May saw an agreement between Vinacomin, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), and build-operate-transfer (BOT) thermal power plants to reduce stockpiles from 14 days to 7 days. This measure not only optimizes coal storage but also enables an estimated 220,000-ton increase in imported coal blend for EVN's power plant, as requested by EVN.

In addition to these measures, Vinacomin has supplied EVN's power plant with an additional 80 thousand tonnes of coal. This additional supply will be offset by the wet months of 2023, ensuring a balanced and efficient allocation of resources. This strategy was implemented successfully in May of 2023 when Vinacomin successfully delivered additional coal.

Considering the last six months of the year, Vinacomin forecasts that coal demand for power generation will continue to rise until July 2023. After that, a slight decrease in the wet months is anticipated, followed by an increase beginning in November 2023. Mr. Dang Thanh Hai, CEO of Vinacomin, reaffirmed the company's commitment to stable supply to meet future demand, to deliver approximately 18.7 million tonnes of coal in the second half of the year. In addition, the total figure is projected to reach 39.7 million tonnes for the full year, demonstrating Vinacomin's commitment to supporting the country's growing energy needs, with a significant increase of 15% year-over-year.

Vinacomin's initiative to meet the rising demand for coal in Vietnam's power industry exemplifies the company's vital role in achieving energy security and the nation's sustainable development objectives. water.
