In January 2022, Japan's flower imports totaled 4.56 billion yen (36.9 million USD), an increase of 16.1 percent over January 2021.

Japan imports flowers primarily from China, Taiwan, Colombia, and Malaysia; in January 2022, the value of imports from these four markets accounted for 62.4 percent of the overall value of Japan's flower imports. Japan's flower imports climbed significantly from three of these four markets in January 2022, while imports from Malaysia declined.

In January 2022, Vietnam was the sixth largest flower supplier to Japan, with 352.1 million JPY (equal to 2.8 million USD), up 19.3 percent from January 2021. Vietnam's imports accounted for 7.7 percent of total import value, up 0.2 percentage points from January 2021.

Thus, imported vegetables and fruits in general, and Vietnamese flowers in particular, are becoming increasingly well-known, well-received, and consumed in the Japanese market by both the Japanese, the Vietnamese population, and people from other Asian nations.

These are encouraging signs that Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products in general, as well as flower products, still have a lot of room to grow in the Japanese market in the coming years.
