Vietnam hosts the 4th Global Conference on Sustainable Food

DNHN - From April 24 to 27, the 4th Global Conference on Sustainable Food and Food was held in Hanoi under the theme "Transforming a healthy, sustainable, and adaptive food and food system in the context of climate change and a new crisis."

During a press conference held before organizing the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep stated, "The United Nations chose Vietnam to host the conference because, through many stages of development, Vietnam has become the second largest exporter of agricultural products. Vietnam exports agricultural products worth 54 billion USD in 2022 and aims for 55 billion USD this year. Vietnam is highly regarded by the United Nations for its contribution to world food security.

The hosting of the conference, according to Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep, is in the context of Vietnam's agricultural sector implementing the Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development for the period 2021 to 2030, with a vision to 2050 based on three pillars: Ecological agriculture - The contemporary countryside - Intelligent and civilized farmers.

Vietnam's agricultural sector is transitioning towards an integrated growth model with multiple values, characterized by high technology, diversity, sustainability, and low emissions. Alongside this are the prudent use of resources, the preservation and conservation of biodiversity, and the protection of the ecological environment. "The purpose of hosting the conference in the current global context is to communicate Vietnam's agricultural brand as a 'Transparent, responsible, and sustainable food and food supplier' internationally. Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep stated, "At the same time, it demonstrates that Vietnam is a responsible member regarding global issues, including food and energy security."

The conference consisted of a series of events that occurred continuously over four days, from April 24 to 27, including nine official sessions, ten side technical sessions, a one-day meeting of a multi-stakeholder advisory board, and a site visit. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, and Vietnamese Farmers Association participated in the conference. Nam, Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will speak at plenary and sideline sessions on the following topics: Reviewing global models and architectures of the Food and Food System; driving transformation through science, finance, human rights, and innovation; dialogue of the National Focal Points on the Food and Food System; Responsible investment and digital transformation in agriculture.

In addition to contributing to the promotion of Vietnam's agricultural achievements, the conference will examine the primary obstacles associated with the transformation of the food system, discuss potential solutions, and make several recommendations. can act. At the conference, four major groups of issues will be discussed: the global architectural model of the food system; national and local policies and governance on food systems; consumption and production patterns of the food system; and methods for implementing food system transformation.

The conference will also introduce good models, country-specific examples of food system transformation, and international initiatives.
