DNHN - It is quite surprising that some domestic tourist destinations that were popular last year are suddenly "cold" this summer. For instance, Phu Quoc received slightly more than 112,000 visitors, an 11% decrease from the same period.

In comparison to the same period in 2022, Ngoc Island's total revenue from tourism during the April 30 - May 1 holiday period decreased by more than 24% due to the decline in the number of tourists. The majority of comments stated that the reason cost of airfare is the primary reason why tourists are visiting Phu Quoc at this time. There was a time when round-trip airfare exceeded 10 million VND, which is more than the price of a package tour to Thailand.
Ha Duy Thao Phuc, Deputy General Director of Rooty Trip Phu Quoc Company, stated: "In the past, airfares were determined by the law of supply and demand; however, beginning in 2023, they will be determined by the plan. the earnings of airlines. People won't visit Phu Quoc when airfares are too high compared to Da Nang, Thailand, and other destinations.
Although ticket prices have decreased near the ceremony, the majority of tourists have "changed"
According to the Kien Giang Tourism Department, the number of international visitors to Kien Giang is decreasing; the only countries with connecting flights to Phu Quoc are Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand; the flight from India to Phu Quoc is temporarily suspended due to a lack of passengers; charter flights (charter) connecting Taiwan to Phu Quoc are also suspended (only ten flights); and the flight connecting Hong Kong to Phu Quoc that was scheduled to take place on April 27 did not take place.
In addition to the airfare, many tourists believe that Phu Quoc is deserted due to its high cost.
Given that the high airfare is not necessarily the primary reason why Phu Quoc lost customers, reader HHy remarked, "I do not believe that the high airfare is the primary reason why Phu Quoc is absent on this occasion. Get an order. It is not necessary to fly Westerners to Phu Quoc, but the number of Westerners on the island is decreasing.
I believe that the cost of services in Phu Quoc is the primary issue, given that the North and South Island regions are also quite expensive. The price of boat service to visit the island is not gentle, and the cost of expensive items can be found in numerous locations. It is acceptable to spend a lot of money when traveling if the quality is commensurate. However, the issue is that the quality of food stalls, including mini-marts, is subpar despite their exorbitant prices."
Regarding this, Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of the Phu Quoc City People's Committee, stated, "We will continue to strengthen the work of checking prices, listing prices, and regularly propagating service businesses, particularly in the tourism industry." We will handle cases of selling at the listed price or cutting it off at the correct price with determination. These cases will be dealt with according to the law."
If Phu Quoc does not want to continue to experience a lack of visitors during the upcoming tourist season, it will be necessary for it to devise solutions.
