More than two million Vietnamese living abroad are said to have some sort of connection to Ho Chi Minh City right now, whether it be through family ties, cooperation, employment, or regular stays. The majority of expatriate Vietnamese who get in touch with the City live, work, and attend school in more industrialized capitalist nations like the United States, Western European nations, Canada, and Australia. In the city, almost 50% of families have Vietnamese relatives who reside overseas.
Although overseas Vietnamese have ties to the City, they come from different places and have different reasons for leaving, as well as different living conditions, but because of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee's flexibility in carrying out work for overseas Vietnamese, the economy is expanding and the nation's p
Numerous Vietnamese living abroad and their families in the city, including those who have visited their homeland frequently, are happy and optimistic about the state of the city's renovation and development. They also believe that the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws regarding these people should be more open and transparent, well-comply with local laws and regulations, and support their loved ones' economic well-being.
The response of the countrymen in Ho Chi Minh City and overseas was especially noticeable when the city was facing the fourth wave of the Covid-19 outbreak, which had consequences that were many times more severe than those of the first three waves. The mobilization of overseas Vietnamese has been actively carried out with flexible forms appropriate to the epidemic situation, strengthening the connection of overseas Vietnamese with the homeland. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, as the unit receiving funds, goods, necessities, and medical equipment, has received support and contributions from organizations and individuals.
Our compatriots abroad have banded together, stood shoulder to shoulder, and shared with compatriots in the nation, responding to the call of the Party, State, and Fatherland Front leaders and fostering the tradition of solidarity and mutual affection. This has contributed in a very practical and effective way to the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic in the city.
Currently, the City is working to put into effect Decision No. 3900/QD-UBND of the City People's Committee, Decision No. 128/NQ-CP of the Government, and Directive No. 18/CT-UBND of the Chairman of the City People's Committee on continuing to control and adjust measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic and gradually recover and develop socioeconomically in Ho Chi Minh City. Many "green areas" have been enlarged, production and economic activities are gradually returning, and people's spirits and quality of life are progressively returning to the "new normal" circumstances.
The Government's Resolution No. 169/NQ-CP promulgating the Government's action plan on Overseas Vietnamese work in the 2021–2026 period, as well as the Politburo's Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW on Overseas Vietnamese Work in the New Situation, pointed out that Overseas Vietnamese Work needs to be implemented in many ways, not only focusing on advocacy work but also support work, "more clearly shows the affection and responsibility of the Party
